MT versus other majors

This is not entirely accurate. There are faculty members who are not adjuncts and some who are professors who are NOT department heads. For example, in NSB studio, my D worked on staff (she was out of college) with Michael McElroy who is an Assistant Professor and not the head of the “department” or studio. That’s true of Byron Easley who is Associate Arts Professor in NSB and not a department/studio head. When my D was a student, she worked very closely with Liz Swados who is an Arts Professor at Tisch and not in a particular studio. She also worked closely with Mary Overlie, an Associate Arts Professor and Lisa Sokolov, an Arts Professor, both NOT “department” heads or adjuncts but are Tisch faculty in ETW, just for examples. These folks are all also professionals in the field. When my D was a Tisch student and still 18, she musically directed a premiere of Ms. Swados in NYC (and was paid for that position) and after graduating performed professionally in concert with Lisa Sokolov in Germany one summer.

A thing that may confuse those with no connection to NYU/Tisch is that SOME of the conservatory studios are contracted with Tisch to teach NYU students…examples: Playwrights Horizons, Adler, Atlantic (and when my D attended, CAP21). The faculty in those studios are NOT Tisch faculty/professors. However, as noted with just a few examples above, Tisch DOES have professors who are not adjuncts and are NOT department (or studio) heads, who teach in the studios run directly by Tisch (not contracted out), such as in ETW, NSB, Strasberg, and Meisner. Further, there are Tisch faculty/professors who are not adjuncts who teach many of the other Tisch Drama courses that are not studio based courses such as Theater Studies classes, other performance oriented classes, electives and so on.

I stand corrected…
