“Control” is a word used in scientific studies and educated investigation. In any case, I’m sure you can understand that “homes” are made up of many different people, some of whom might be able to buy a gun, if it has any bearing on what I said at all.
@rosered55 (Surprised), well, human organisms, of course.
Yep… our backyard is fenced in, but it does not meet our municipality’s rules for how tall a fence needs to be around a pool, so we have an additional fence around the pool.
And our insurance is much higher because of the pool.
Gun owners should have to pay higher insurance rates too. Its another known risk.
Many states have gun lock and security requirements and there is a federal law as well.

That is not the only definition of control.
Yes, I understand homes are made up of many different types of people, so?
And since so many like what comes from the "elite"schools around here, this is pretty clear:

More guns = more homicides.
Ah, the human organisms. I agree, we should deal with the real problem: the human organisms who refuse to enact gun control laws.
@emilybee Your statement was "There is no way to control for those factors as it isn’t illegal for any of those people to buy a gun(s)…" which has nothing to do with these examples being discussed.
Did they control for drug and alcohol abuse, lack of education, mental illness and criminal history?
It would be hard to bring your classmates over and drown 9 of them in your swimming pool. Not really analogous.

Since all these people (minus ones with criminal convictions) can purchase guns legally it does not matter. The fact is that if one has a gun in their home they are less safe than those who do not. Ditto for those simply living in a state with lax gun laws.
@LakeWashington RE post #210 . . . I was not taking a swipe at the tribes and am sorry if I was not specific enough and it sounded that way. I meant about what you are saying. Marysville, Everette, Lake Stevens, Granite Falls and on up that way are not the places where you would get a larger outcry about guns - very similar to Roseburg in that regard. In our little urban pocket the feeling on the street might be different but I noticed no real fuss about the access to guns things RE the families of those kids who were killed - even the non-tribal kids. So, in short, you did misunderstand my comment.
edit: and I come from a family of hunters and my sister and I both married hunters so I am not a culture warrior against old school subsistence based recreational activities if that’s where you were going.
It would appear you understood nothing from the discussion about “controlling” for associated risk factors.
And it would appear you are ignoring the likelihood that guns are more often used against the homeowner
and women are not saffer with gusn http://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2014/02/having-a-gun-in-the-house-doesnt-make-a-woman-safer/284022/
No one will change their minds about this. Pointless discussion.
@jym626 None of your links addressed any of the factors I have been mentioning.
I don’t care whether you change your minds or how many links you post to popular media with tired old data. The facts are that when you do a proper study, the picture can look very different from what you would like it to.
“It would appear you understood nothing from the discussion about “controlling” for associated risk factors.”
I understand exactly the point you are trying to make.
Wow, short news cycle. From where I’m watching the news, the focus has already moved on to the US air strike on the Doctors Without Borders hospital in Afghanistan.
Yours isnt the only conversation being had here, JOD. That said, gun nuts will justify their ownership/use of guns. I find the articles about guns as phallic symbols much more amusing.
More like fetishists.
