<p>If you are sincerely interested in a potential spot at each school, then sign up for each waitlist. If you get a spot at one school and decide to accept it (which will need to be very quickly off a waitlist), then let the other school know you no longer want to be on their list. </p>
<p>It gets trickier to decide if you continue to be waitlisted only by your clear favorite, a phone call to the admissions officer might be in order then. Some people put down a deposit on an acceptable school that has made an offer, so as not to lose at least one definite place, while they continue to wait on their favorite (which may not materialize into a spot). </p>
<p>Certrainly update both schools on your continued interest and activities since January (new grades, etc.)</p>
