I’ve stopped taking multivitamins, because they made me vomit a couple of times. I never take them on an empty stomach, but only after I’ve had a substantial breakfast. The problem is that they often make me sick anyway, unless I keep snacking all morning. I’ve stopped the snacking habit (need to lose weight), thus the vomiting.

Can anyone recommend a brand that I might be able to tolerate? I am too old to need iron.

I have a very strong stomach, and nothing usually bothers it. But I’ve always had a problem with vitamins.

Have you tried a children’s chewable? Or having an apple (or carrots) (lots of fiber) with them? Or taking your vitamin at lunchtime instead of in the morning? Or taking a lower dosage vitamin two times a day?

Not to be rude, but this thread should be moved out of E and P. You will get more responses under FORUM or CAFE.

Now to your answer…try doing something like me, I vomit like you…throughout the day, I adjust my diet…i.e. I eat the chocolate calcium chewables, metamucil cinnamon apple cookies for fiber, V8 Fusion for veggies/fruit, and every dinner has a green leafy for folic. Snacks during the day are cheese sticks, nuts or protein bars. I am sure I am not getting everything, but one thing I am sure of my body absorbs everything…want to question how much you are absorbing take the vitamin and drop it in water, watch how long it takes to dissolve.

The amount you spend on vitamins, will equal buying better juices, vegetables, and dairy.

I find capsules are easier to digest- than tablets.
I would also suggest taking minerals separately- you shouldn’t be taking calcium at the same time you take iron as they will bind together, however taking vitamin C ( or orange juice) when you take iron will enhance absorption .

Much of the soil has been depleted of nutrients- I think that to maximize health, nutritional supplements are important , and can be adjusted to support individual needs.

B vitamins are often the ones that upset your stomach, try taking them with a good yogurt- on the other hand my daughter still takes gummy vitamins.

VitaFusion MutiVites chewables sold at Costco are the BEST-tasting vitamin supplements I’ve ever tried, and I rate them above Gummy Vites and Emergen C (which both are very good):

I had the same problem. However, I am anemic so I absolutely must take vitamins. I take the Target brand multivitamin/multimineral. It’s about $4 for nearly 4 months of pills. Best ones I’ve ever tried. The more expensive ones made me really sick.

Thank you for all the suggestions! I agree with you, bullet, that this does not belong in the politics forum. I hadn’t realized that I’d put it here, and I found it by searching on “vitamins” after I couldn’t find the thread in the Cafe.

I am going to report myself to a moderator and ask that the thread be moved.

There are some really bad vitamins out there. Some of the cheap ones don’t dissolve or have what they say on the label. Make sure you buy an USP verified vitamin product.
