If investigators have a usable picture of him without a mask, then he is toast. I wouldn’t be surprised if they already know who he is.
Deny, defend, depose. To me the words on the casings refer to a lawsuit relating to a denial of coverage.
Maybe the shooter now has a terminal disease and nothing left to lose if he is caught.
How did he know when the CEO would be headed to the Hilton?
That would definitely be a plot twist worthy of Law and Order as the spouse made a statement about how he had recently received threats - which perhaps is what someone might do in an attempt to divert attention from their own role. But I imagine law enforcement would work quickly to rule her out.
Or had a family member recently die as a result of denial of coverage and figures “an eye for an eye” and is so distraught that he no longer cares what happens to him because he figures his life is basically over anyway with the loved one.
Which is odd because signs had been pointing to a professional hit, but that kind of mistake would be very amateurish, no?
Or maybe it’s a red herring.
The main clue to me is this guy clearly knew where this CEO would be. How? That’s why family or someone connected to the firm is a suspect to me.
It’s sounding more like a skilled shooter versus a professional assassin.
But his timing and positioning might also indicate an accomplice in the hotel?
Although I suppose if you knew the schedule of the investor meeting you could extrapolate a window of time that the CEO would arrive.
Right so I have the same question as Youdon_tsay: how did they know? Is that public information or widely known information? How hard is it to find that out? I would imagine not very hard, but I have no idea.
My sincerest sympathies to the wife and children of this CEO. I’m keeping them in my positive thoughts and prayers.
Honestly, I doubt very much that this was some professional assassin or hitman. More likely someone with an ax to grind against United Healthcare who knew how to handle firearms. In any event, time will tell. It will also be interesting to see if this guy was a lone wolf or had help. Regarding how he knew the victim would be there, I read news accounts saying that it was announced to the public that the meeting would be held at the Hilton back on November 26th.
Agreed. Maybe his arrival time would be widely known?
Lots of people in our country have extensive experience and knowledge of guns. It’s not a surprise that a person with an ax to grind would have the knowledge to track and execute a hit. Without being a professional.
Saying all that, I expect law enforcement and the FBI are using all of their resources to find the perpetrator.
It took a few minutes with Google Fu.
At this point nothing points to this being a professional hit. It gets a bit sloppier with every update.
And a lot people feel they have been screwed over by the insurance industry. So it almost seems like the situation was a ticking time bomb to begin with. Hopefully this does not inspire copy cats - that’s probably the biggest fear now. Especially if the gunman becomes a sort of folk hero among the disaffected.
Maybe we have different definitions of a professional hit. When I use that term I mean murder for hire. How “professional” the hired person is … well, maybe you get what you pay for. Disappearing into Central Park seemed smart, leaving behind a water bottle not so much.
Just saw photos of the suspect. He looks young and healthy.
I had read some time ago, that despite this being a common and widespread belief - murder for hire isn’t a real thing.
Meaning, as an ordinary citizen with no gang connections, you can’t simply pay someone to commit murder on your behalf.
So do I, but I am a cancer patient (albeit in remission currently, but even during active treatment, you wouldn’t have know I was sick just by looking at me, so looks can be deceiving). Or, as I said, maybe it was a loved one - a spouse, a child, a parent - that had a claim denied.
That’s actually surprising to me - I feel like I’ve seen multiple Dateline episodes about disgruntled spouses doing just this. But maybe I just watch too much TV
What? I mean, we live in Jersey. I can think of a couple of high profile murders for hire without even googling…Robert Marshall, that Rabbi from Cherry Hill…
Supposedly the shooter went to Starbucks ahead of the shooting and police may have his cup from there. Then perhaps DNA too.
Again, most of what I know about crime comes from TV so I really have no idea about this: is DNA of any use if the suspect is not in the system? Although I’ve also heard of them using DNA with those Ancestry-like sites to identify family matches and then taking it from there. What do you actually do with DNA prior to apprehending a suspect? Obviously in court and for proving guilt once the suspect has been apprehended it is invaluable.
