I’ve been looking at wall units that incorporate a murphy bed with office/storage options.

A vendor told me that “murphy bed” is actually a brand name, and the generic name is wall bed. (i.e., murphy=kleenex, wall = tissue). He also claimed that his brand, SICO, was far superior in quality to Murphy beds. (Also far more expensive.)

Which leads me to ask whether anyone has any experience with murphy (or wall) beds. Any advice for brands, design, or factors to consider would be appreciated!

Check out DESQ in St Louis Park. I think my mom’s friends bought one there.

You can also buy just the wall bed mechanism online and have a custom cabinet maker create the surround.

Thanks, actually DESQ was on my list to visit!

We had one in our last house, so the office could double as a guest bedroom. The paneling on the underside of the bed matched the office cabinet doors so that when the bed was up it just looked like more storage. We loved it!

That’s exactly what I have in mind. Do you happen to know the brand you had?
