Mushrooms on the Lawn?

I have a large lawn, but only a small 200sf area that has Mushrooms growing. They are wild white mushrooms as big as 3" diameter, some smaller. I spent some time today to pick them up and they filled a whole 2 gallon bucket. I discarded it in the garbage. That lawn area is fully exposed to sun light, not shaded.

Any idea how to treat the area so to stop the mushrooms from growing?

No mushrooms are good.
Then again I took out all my grass, and do have to go around the yard picking the mushrooms so the dog doesn’t eat them.

They indicate something underneath is decaying, generally roots or other organic material. Has there recently been s nearby tree taken down? We took a huge dead tree out of our back yard 17+ years ago (was home on maternity leave w S1, so I can date it) and I still get mushrooms every summer in the spot where the stump was.

If you are getting that many mushrooms, I say pick up the phone and contact your local nature center/ag extension office and find out if they are edible. If so, eat them. If not, just run them over with the lawn mower. It isn’t like they are going to be there every day all year long.
