Have you considered Miami (Ohio) University? Beautiful campus, great size, good music department, and with Cincinnati (and CCM) so close, they can attract some pretty great faculty. It looks like they do have a dedicated Bass person (even if he is adjunct). Academic merit can be stacked with music merit there, too!
