Music Colleges...

I'm a soon-to-be Senior in high school and so I've been looking at colleges a lot lately. I play flute and definitely want to continue and pursue performance throughout my career. I'm looking for a college with a reallllly strong music performance major. In looking, I'm only really able to find information on the big conservatories (Juilliard, New England, Cleveland, Eastman, Curtis, etc...). I would prefer to attend a college rather than a conservatory, and it's really hard to find out about colleges that aren't as well known as the big league conservatories for music. So does anyone have any suggestions of colleges with a strong music performance (especially flute) program?? Thanks!!

Berklee is the best I have heard

Carnegie Mellon has an excellent music program, and it is definitely part of a larger university. Not entirely sure about their expertise on flute specifically, however.

but of course, I am a little biased.

Indiana University and University Of Rochester I've heard

This should be moved to the music majors forum. Universities with well known music programs include Indiana, Michigan, Boston U, Northwestern, Rice, Lawrence and Vanderbilt. There are others as well. All of these will require you to meet academic admissions requirements as well as audition requirements. I do not know about the strength of the flute department at these schools. However, people on the music majors forum will know.

shennie--how would i movie it?

flutelover, hit the report problem post link, and a dialog box will open. Type a request for a moderator to move it to the music major forum.

This will get you started in the meantime http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/6280-suggestions-colleges-music-majors.html

Look at University of the Pacific in Stockton, California....university with a conservatory program. Beautiful campus...you'll think it was moved buildings and all from back east. Very good reputation musically. Also Cal State University Northridge has a big music dept, that is well regarded.

violadad: thanks!!

and thanks to the rest of you too...i'll definitely look into all of them!

Violadad is a great source of information.

rjkofnovi, I've also been called a veritable fountain of elephants.
