Hello fellows, this is my first time using this page. My main question is about the two composition interview I received
from two schools, The Boston Conservatory, and The College Conservatory at University of Cincinnati. I’m a Cuban young men who came 5 years ago, and nobody of my acquaintances has a clue about the process of being accepted into a music program (specially composition). What is the positive about these two invitations? I’ve being potentially accepted? It is the final decision based on the interview? Please I beg for any information related with the topic. If some of the answers begins with, or includes the word “Congratulations”, I’d like you to explain me why are you using that word. Thanks in advance.
Odds are, they want to meet you before making a final decision, but your chances at a formal acceptance are good. Both are very strong programs. It’s also possible that they’re not sure and a good interview will push the decision in your favor. I’m not positive, but they may also want to check your proficiency on an instrument as well. Performance level playing isn’t necessary, but you will need enough ability to not hinder your growth as a composer. I know people from both schools and being accepted to either program is an honor. I would look at the people who have come from each school and see where their strengths are. From my understanding, Cincinnati does “weird” more than Boston. Eric Whitacre and John Mackey are both Cincinnati graduates. Boston has better access to a top-tier orchestra, but Ohio has respectable orchestras as well.
