Music ECs and Arts Supplement

Hello,

I am a cellist applying to a few competitive academic schools (like Yale) in addition to music conservatories. At the risk of sounding arrogant, I would say that I’m a top-tier cellist (not a child prodigy with an international solo career, but good enough to be competitive at A-list music schools). My academic stats are well within the acceptable range at the academic schools-- I’m more concerned about how to make the most of my music activites on my applications.

1) How much impact does an arts supplement have in the admissions process?

2) Short answer on Common App expanding on an EC-- what is the appropriate tone?

3) Should I use my essay to write about music or would it be wiser to use the essay to emphasize my other EC (art history stuff and founding an art gallery that is active and unique in the local art scene).

4) How should I emphasize that music takes up most of time outside of school? I want to make sure that I make depth apparent, especially in the absence of breadth.

Thanks.
