Has anyone heard from any admissions officers for Music Summer Camps, in particular for Tanglewood BUTI? We have heard from Interlochen, which we are grateful for, but their deposit deadline is March 1 and Tanglewood says their decisions don’t come out until March 15. Does anyone have any tried and true advice on whether Interlochen will extend decision deadlines or if Tanglewood will be deciding soon? This is my son’s first year doing summer programs and we are a little overwhelmed. Thank you so much!
I recommend that you contact Interlochen Arts Camp admissions staff and ask them about an extension. They may indeed be somewhat flexible. It is quite common for students to apply to both Interlochen and Tanglewood, so you will likely not be the only one asking them this question.
This comes up each year, they know their deadline is before BUTI and many of the other programs. Ask for an extension. Just checked the stream from last year and well all heard from BUTI by March 1.
We’re in the same boat. I called Tanglewood and they said it happens all the time and that they would flag her application to ensure we receive a decision before 3/1. She also said that Interlochen will generally extend the deadline if you ask them.
I heard back f rom BUTI on Feb 21 for the Young Artist Orchestra program
My son also heard on 2/21. got into a workshop and WL for YAWE. Anyone have any thoughts about when the WL might move?
Same for my son. I asked by email and all they would say is either “top half or bottom half” and not an exact rank. I would imagine some dominos will start falling after the first deadline on 3/1. Some kids that also were accepted to interlochen may make a decision starting 2/28 when scholarships are announced by BUTI.
I don’t know if the WL is 10 or 50. I’m sure it varies by instrument. I know for horn they only accept about 8-10 into the program so not sure why they would WL many more than 10-15 or so.
You fill your waitlist with everyone who can meet the cutoff for demonstrated ability.
Most of your waitlist will be accepted elsewhere or otherwise be unavailable when it is time to start pulling from it. And most of these programs need to fill their orchestras so the music can be performed, as well as making sure their finances allow them to stay staffed and keep the programs running.
So you may need to go pretty deep into your waitlist some years to keep your program healthy and thriving.
