Musical artists you can't stand!!

Hotel California has that unfortunate Roach Motel line “You can check out any time, but you can never leave.”

the only Eagles songs I like are “Take it easy” and “Boys of SUmmer.”

Agree with many on Adele. All sound the same to me. I get she has a good voice, can’t abide the kind of songs she sings.

Jagger.

Haven’t seen mine listed here—I cannot STAND Natalie Merchant/10000 Maniacs. Her voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me and I don’t know why. She was very popular and I’ve never met anyone else who felt the same as I do.

Even thinking about her songs makes me involuntarily shudder. Weird.

@lookingforward , I feel the same way about Prince. Now that he has died, it seems like everyone but me is a fan
Also, not a fan of Adele. I don’t know a lot of newer pop artists unless they tend to be so overplayed that the songs are unavoidable…I don’t listen to radio.
@bearpanther , I like Natalie , but that is because she reminds me of someone who liked her and used to burn me CDs of her solo and 10,000 Maniac days…the person passed away so it makes me think of her

Not a big Eagles fan and I totally agree that Jimmy Buffet and the whole vibe associated with him is overrated.

Love Jimmy Buffet!
“Freezin’ up in Buffalo stuck in their cars whIle I’m lyin’ here 'neath the sun and the stars” !

I’d be happy never to hear Three Dog Night again. The one request we had for our wedding band - please, please do not play Jeremiah Was a Bullfrog". Oh, I thought of another - Chicago - we also asked them not to play Color My World (or any other Chicago songs).

Not exactly an “artist” but my H loves “Jacques Brel is alive and Well and LIving in Paris” but he cannot play it around me–total fingernails on a blackboard. Totally drives me up a wall.

He grew up hearing it played by his parents, and his brother loves it too. Sister-in-law feels exactly the same as me.

Florida Georgia Line.

Love Jimmy Buffett and almost all country music.

Britney Spears is just horrible. I hate bubble gum pop in general.

Also in the “so bad it’s good” category: Bette Midler and her cover of “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy”

Captain and Tennille lost me with “Muskrat Love”. It may have been stupid but it sure was bad. As a 17 year old teenager Paul Anka and Odia Coates, “Your Having My Baby” just nausiated me. Finally, was the extremely overplayed and sickeningly morose “Feelings”. I look forward to hearing that again … never.

I don’t care for most of the big diva voices in popular music (Adele and her various imitators )now because their material is such a mismatch for their gifts. All the belting and melisma in the world can only go so far in making a mediocre song and lyric sound good. I guess this started in the 90s with Whitney Houston, Celine Dion and Mariah Carey. All of these women have phenomenal natural talent, but where have the lyricists and composers who are worthy of their talents gone? Ella Fitzgerald and Peggy Lee had much better material to work with.

I do like a lot of country music, and it’s the genre in which a lot of the best live musicians and singers are currently working (since pop music is now so studio-based, heavily influenced by EDM, autotune and sampling). But I hate Florida Georgia Line and the whole “bro-country” thing.

" …where have the lyricists and composers who are worthy of their talents gone? Ella Fitzgerald and Peggy Lee had much better material to work with."

Yes, @NJSue. Yes.

Ella sang better too.

@dstark, I’ll take it you are familiar with her botched Mack the Knife, where she is the consummate performer, working in every note of every wrong word, but taking us on a history of the greats? Love that woman’s energy.

There’s a funny blog about what band NC deserves now that Springsteen has cancelled and the “sonic rape that is known as Florida/Georgia Line” is mentioned but then the authors say - but they might actually like that band!

Makes me a little curious as to how bad they sound.

@Waiting2exhale, Absolutely…I remember that performance. :slight_smile:
You have great taste.

I watched Ella perform many times…with Joe Pass, Oscar Peterson, Count Basie, and others.

For some reason this was playing in my mind when Ella was mentioned…
