Hey everyone. This process has been… a pain lol. And I’m currently coming up with a game plan with my parents. One idea is transferring programs once I’m in a school! Does anyone have any experience with that? Is the audition process different?
Transferring from what to what?
From something like business as a freshman to an MT program. The idea is I apply to MT programs while I’m in my freshman year if this doesn’t work out.
The audition process will be the same, but you’ll apply as a transfer student. You’ll need to submit apps and prescreens just like you did this time. If you’re looking to transfer within a school, make sure they allow it.
Portals are apparently being updated. Nothing there for my daughter yet, but others have finally received their rejections.
I would say it was worth the trip I had a great time and participated in some fun workshops while there. Also I got two offers from school that were Mid/safe range so it has and was a comfort going into the process knowing i was least going to school next year to get a BFA
Just heard no from ccm!
I guess two possible options are take a gap year or major in something nonMT if you are really unhappy with all your options. Pluses of a gap year are that you’ll save money and have time to work on prescreens and auditions to hopefully have better results. Also be aware that many MT programs have a 4year progression, so even if you go to college for a different major, you may still have to do an additional 4 years (5 years total). Of course if you decided to go to school as a nonMT major, hopefully you could get some gen eds out of the way. Or maybe you could go to a school that offers a BA in theatre where there might be a little overlap. Good luck with your decision. I don’t think there’s really a “right” answer.
Musical Theatre!
Molloy/CAP21 physical acceptance letters are being delivered this week! Check your actual mailbox!
I’m in the same boat here! I also want to do some visits before making a final decision… I’ve seen a lot of people say that visiting/auditing classes has completely changed their final decision… we’ll see!
My daughter and husband are flying out to visit her top choice on Sunday. She’ll go to all the classes on Monday, as well as the rehearsal that evening. She’s super excited about it!
What is the logic in sending Acceptances first and rejections much later keeping them in suspense? I would think it should be other way around!
I don’t know. Maybe because by the time they get the rejection they’re expecting it and have already accepted it. Or some schools are just really bad at the technology aspect of things.
Has anyone heard from Pace FTVC? I know they typically call.
Hi! I am a transfer!
I had bad luck my senior year and ended up at a BFA program I really hated. I decided I wanted to transfer my sophomore year and took a gap year to reaudition. I took a “leave of absence” so that, if needed, I could go back to my old school (if transfer audition results were bad). I have had great luck! I already got into MMC and MSM and am waiting on results for 4 more programs.
Gap year was super helpful to REALLY focus on prescreens and audition prep. I worked full time and saved money.
During my time at my first BFA program, I always had transferring on my mind and purposefully took credits I thought would transfer - If you do the transfer route over a gap year, look into this! Lots of BFA programs share similar standardized credits (jazz dance, music theory, etc.). If it’s not a conservatory, take gen eds that will transfer.
Best of luck!! NO shame in a gap year or transferring, this progress is crazy!
That’s incredible! I’m planning to do the same for one of my top choices later on in April. I hope she has an awesome time.
You have some fantastic offers so far too! I’m very happy for you. UNCSA as well, right? Congratulations!
I’m a mom here! My son didn’t pass some of his first prescreens and I was getting so nervous! I ended up getting him an audition coach and it made all of the difference! He passed every single Prescreen after that and has some great offers too. This audition process is so subjective, nuanced and down right hard. Don’t settle on your dreams. I agree with other folks - whatever results come in, do what makes you truly happy! The hope is that you will be happy about what college you choose! Keep hoping and training and the sky is the limit!
We’re waiting on NYU as well. There are others, but in the waiting, Missouri State’s offer is looking the most exciting to my son. I’m so so happy that he is happy!!! But still need to visit there along with the one or two other offers just to feel completely sure. If NYU comes back with a yes, then that will be a difficult decision for my kid!
