Basically, I’m looking for audition material (and I’m sure I’m not the only one). I created this thread as a resource for female singers who are looking for a prod in the right direction, specifically for uptempo belty numbers. Which musicals have them and won’t be too overdone? There seems to be an abundance of information on what NOT to sing (we all know Wicked and jrb/sondheim etc are out). So, what are musicals that you like, that have belty uptempos? Just list.

(P.S. I know alot of people will say “it’s hard to give you a song without knowing/hearing your voice.” Thats not what I’m looking for. I can pick my own song… when I know where I should start looking.)

I love “The Story Goes On” from Baby…some girl sang it at a college audition last year and I completely fell in love with it. Someone else sang “Here I Am” from DRS but I don’t know if that would still be on the “do not use list”…still, it’s a great belty number. I hadn’t heard it before the audition.

I love Hear I Am, but I think that falls on the “do not use” list…

that’s what i figured…but definitely check out “The Story Goes On”! I can’t find any recording or youtube of anyone that actually belts it all the way but if you have the notes it is really awesome.

Another song from Baby is I Want It All.

A way back to then from Title of Show, (ballad)
Anything Goes from Anything Goes (up tempo)
See What I Wanna See from See What I Wanna See (up tempo)

That is just off the top of my head. There are tons, but for some reason they are escaping me at this moment. Best of Luck!

this is just me going through my itunes…
anything kander and ebb tends to fall in that range, look for their lesser-known stuff too
on the town-- there are three female leads that all have distinctly different voices, one might fit you (maybe wonderful town as well??)

^see what i wanna see does have some great stuff, but it’s lachiusa, who writes very challenging music…make sure you check it out with someone who plays piano.
