Hello CCers. Im a junior whose currently taking Calc BC. I was wondering whether it would be better to take:
AP Stats - High school
MV Calc (one year) - UIUC
Linear Algebra (one year) - UIUC
Linear Algebra + MV Calc - Community College
I want to major in engineering
In college, multivariable calculus is typically a one semester course, and linear algebra is typically a one semester course or part of a one semester course combined with differential equations. Both are typically needed for engineering majors. AP statistics is usually not applicable for engineering majors; if an engineering major requires statistics, it typically requires a calculus based statistics course.
At UIUC, engineering majors require MATH 241 (calculus 3 or multivariable calculus). Not all require linear algebra, but those that do appear to want MATH 415 (applied linear algebra); there are a few other different linear algebra courses offered at UIUC. For the community college courses, you can check equivalency at the transfer credit web pages of UIUC and other universities.
