I am so mad upset to hear my 17 years old brother complaining about how he doesnt want to come to my first day of college. I am movong to new york which is air plane distance from where i live. this is a big transition for me and i cant understand how he doesnt “care”

my parents also got mad by his attitute.
How can my brother think that way? it is absolutely ridiculous
if my brother had to leave far away, i would definitely follow him to see where he will be sleeping or to encourage him.

is this puberty thing for 17 years old guys?

I don’t think it’s that he doesn’t care so much as its a big hassle to go on a plane ride just to see your brother off to college. Granted, I find it weird that he doesn’t wanna come since it is NEW YORK (well up-state I guess I could understand that).

Just wondering, is your first day of college before or after his school starts?

my first day of college is after his high school starts.
but he could get excused his absence because our school has a system of excusing students absences if he visited college. so i dont see why
i am so sad right now guys…

I’m sorry your brother isn’t being supportive. If he’s 17 though it IS his senior year. Ask him why he doesn’t want to come. I don’t have any siblings so I can’t really relate.

I also don’t see why he should go see your college. The only reason you pointed out is the implication that you don’t have any reason why you wouldn’t want him to come with you. If you have some reason you said I don’t know, but as you’ve posted it seems just silly that you’d have him go with you.

He probably thinks hes gonna see you later, and that it’s not a big deal. But to be honest, I don’t see why he wouldn’t want to go, he could check out the school and the girls.

Also, the trip could be long and a hassle, and senior yr is already very stressful. He will have his own college apps and visits to do, besides.

He’ll know it’s gonna be a drag having to help you haul all your stuff into the dorm, and having your parents fawning all over you ^^

It could be some combination of the above…

I think it’s probably fine if he just sees you off at the airport. I know you’ll miss him but you guys will get to see each other soon, at Thanksgiving. Plus, I imagine you will come home for winter and summer break your first yr. I would relax about it and not take personal offense…try to hang out with him the day beforehand. Take him out to lunch or something ;)

I think you are overreacting a bit and being a bit self-centered to expect your brother to skip school to go to NY and see you off. I can understand being upset that maybe he doesn’t seem upset that you’re leaving. But, it is only May, you don’t leave until august. Also, he is a 17 year old boy, do you expect him to cry? Because I doubt that will happen. It also isn’t like you are going away forever, I am sure you will be back for the holidays and I am sure he will miss you, but it is a bit ridiculous to expect him to be really upset, especially 3 months in advances.

i just asked my brother if he would come if i were to leave for new york, and he said probably not cuz he’s going to be spending more time on a plane more than being on actual ground. << this is true if he’s literally just coming just to see you off.

he also said he would only consider the idea for the reason of skipping school…nothing else.

Lol I guess every family is different. My younger sister won’t be doing that for me, and I won’t be for her. I don’t think any of my friends did with their siblings, either. Some of them didn’t even have parents come along.
