I don’t know how you got a 22 in English… that’s seriously the easiest section there is. @_@

Anyway, the school construction would definitely hurt. Just retake it. Don’t graduate early if you can’t get at least a 28.

heres a tip… dont read the passages. Go to the questions first, answer those that can be directly obtained from the passage (ie in line 35… etc), then go back and skim the passage to answer the questions about the main idea/authors intentions. This worked well enough to get me a 31 in reading…

I don’t think jckund’s tip is good. It’s hard to get the mood and tone of the passage just glancing at lines… wastes way too much time. I got a 33 in reading by actively reading the passage. I got a 35 in english because I had so much grammar work in high school english courses. I think graduating early may hurt you.

" No offense but those are horrible scores I took it in 7th grade and I got a composite score of a 25 "

By who’s standards? Good LORD - I swear some people on here… Do you think I know their not good enough?

If I stay, it’ll be a waste of time anyways. I will do at least somewhat better on the SAT/ACT next time I take it, guaranteed. Also, if I don’t get into UF, it’s not like my life is over. UCF, USF, FSU, are all very nice schools. I’m not obsessed with getting into anywhere. I haven’t posted my EC’s, or any other stats, anything. I’m not worried at all. Graduating early won’t affect me. It’s the University of Florida, and I still have plenty of chances to retake it.

Don’t graduate early if you can’t get at least a 28? Come on - that’s silly ;)

Well, you do need at least a 28 ACT or 1280 (CR + M) SAT I if you want to have the Standardized Testing requirement fulfilled for the 100% Bright Futures :P

thanks for answering my question, i was just wondering. i can sympathize with you on that point. HS is a drag

well, he was complaining about having to read 4 passages in 35 minutes… so obviously, he didnt have enough time to read every single passage thoroughly and answer the questions…

I feel ya…I did good but at my school the ACT mean is probably 17-20, 20 being a high estimate.

4 people scored about a 20 out of 44 seniors
me (31)
2nd rank (24)
3rd rank (23)
15th rank (27)

just read some. I’ve taken it cold every time and I really wish I would have studied.

I got 28 soph, 31 senior, so if you study good you could easily get 26+

I got a 188 on PSATs as a Sophomore, and then got a 2220 as a Senior, without studying any significant amount.

Ansar - I have 4 years full tuition thanks to our “Take Stock in Children” scholarship. Florida comes through again! (To any FLORIDA public university/college)

But you’re right, I do need that 28. I’ll get it. I wasn’t confident, comfortable, or well when I took the test.

Let’s see…you already know why you had horrible scores:

Now just study a little more for the next test or try the SAT. Hopefully you won’t be taking the test in such a crappy condition next time. Good luck.

Dont worry about it just retake I got a 25 ACT after taking the test four times. Went up only 2 points. I get really severe test anxiety and i get close to hyperventilating during the test. Attending my top choice school next year Michigan State University.

Don’t stress about it. A 23 is above average an it really only matters when applying to schools. If you’re planning on going to a state school, a 23 is decent to pass admissions.

Some posters need to realize that grades and test scores are not congruent. I was in the top 10% of my graduating class yet didn’t have an amazing SAT score. The test only measures how well you can take a test.

If you think you were too distracted, take it over.

hashaahahaahaha QQ

Wow, people are here are incredibly rude. Yeah, you got a lower than CC-average score, but it’s still a respectable score. I know what it’s like to take the ACT sick. It sucks! Just retake it and you’ll be fine. Maybe buy a prep book or do a prep course.

A 23 isn’t that bad, and it will get you into a number of decent schools, but it won’t cut it for UF (or FSU).

Try the SAT instead… I did better on it than I did on the ACT. And of course, it won’t hurt to take the ACT again. Good luck!

Thanks all. I’m retaking the ACT and applying to UF most likely with that score. I’m going to buy the REAL ACT Prep guide, and study writing & reading more than anything. My math I just realized my only problem was the Trig section, I was perfect on Algebra.

romanigypsyeyes - THANKS ;)

do the SAT

I suggest getting the Princeton Review book and really take time to study the book. Also, get the Red book the ACT publishes that uses old ACT test. Here’s what I did:
-Take a timed test in the Red book to see how you could do with no practice
-Study the Princeton book
-Take another timed test to see how much you imporved and it gives you a chance to go back if you didn’t understand any of the questions
-Finally, a day or two before the test, take the last Red book test timed to get yourself in the mood for test taking

I’m an absolutely horrible test taker, and yet I scored a 30 (would of been 31 without that stupid science section). The most important thing to do when you take those practice tests is to familiarize yourself with the time limits so you will not have to rush on test day. Hope that helps!

Legit, I think the ACT lies. I had no idea on what to do in the science section and randomly guessed. Maybe I’m incredibly lucky though, because I ended up with a 30. No idea how that happened.

Try again. Or maybe try the SAT. Taking the ACT made me fall in love with the SAT.
