Hi there. I applied to Cerritos College’s Physical Therapy Assistant program recently. I had to transfer some units from Occidental College. My freshman composition classes were CSP 17 and CSP 50. Long story short, I needed to use those classes as English 100 for the PTA program. The course substitution was initially denied, but after meeting with the head of the English Department at Cerritos, the course substitution paperwork was approved and signed and turned in to admissions and records not long after. I just received the response to my application and the reason given for my denial is “Classes noted as English 100 do NOT clear English 100 requirement”. I called and spoke with the health occupations division office and they said to email the program director, which I have, but that I might just have to try again next year. Since it seems like my denial was given erroneously due to a mistake on their end, how can I fight this? This seems so wrong and I am beyond frustrated. I don’t really know what to do besides email the program director and cross my fingers. Is there anything else I can do? I know this program is competitive, but I know I had a pretty competitive application. Any insight or help given will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Can you go to Cerritos in person with all of your documentation and see if someone can help you?
I don’t think email is particularly effective when trying to fix mistakes. Emails are impersonal and too easily ignored or brushed off. I would pick up the phone and call. Talk to a real person and explain what happened. You are much more likely to get someone to help you when you actually talk to them. I’m not saying they will resolve it in your favor, but at least you will get more information and possible an answer.
