My best chances for....

Okay. Hi everyone. Well, to start this thread out I am trying to find out what colleges I have the best chances with. Here is some of my highschool information.

Freshman Year: Pre-AP English I (B+), Pre-AP Biology (A+), Geometry Honors (B+), ROTC I (A), Weight Training (A), Oklahoma/Govt. History (A). My GPA was 4.17 weighted and 3.66 unweighted. I was in Honor Society, Key Club, ROTC, and I had a job.

Sophomore Year: AP Biology (A+), English II (A), Algebra 2 Honors (A+), ROTC II (A), German I (A), and World History (A). I had a job as well this year. I was still in Honor Society, Key Club, ROTC, ROTC Academic Team, and German Club. GPA (4.33 weighted, 4.0 Unweighted.)

Junior Year: Pre-AP Calculus, AP Language and Composition, Pre-AP Physics, German II, ROTC Advanced, and US History. This is as of this August. I’m also in Robotics, Decathalon, ROTC Academic Team, I maintain a top 5 leadership position in ROTC which has about 110 people, I am also “lead programmer in Robotics.”

Senior Year (projected): AP Calculus, AP Physics, AP Literature, ROTC Advanced, and the other two classes I’m not sure.

Okay, I also took the ACT and made a 24. I will take it until I make a 30. So say I do make a 30, what are my chances of getting good scholarships and grants? What colleges would I be able to go to? By the way, I have programming skills in C++, I have extensive knowledge with computers, and I am a great speaker.

Ahh… This is prep-school chances. You might want to look at Collage Chances on the CC somewhere.

Theoretically, a college with a higher admission rate gives you better chances…(; Just pulling your chain haha, so what do you value in a college? You have your eye on any particular schools? I mean, it’s not about where you CAN get in, but where you WANT to GO(: And how realistic do you think the idea of you getting a 30 is, because a 6-point jump is quite a jump… So be realistic(: There are many schools that’ll accept you without a 30, by the way. Though the higher your ACT, the better(:

Well, I took the ACT in October of my Sophomore Year. I’ve felt like I’ve got a lot smarter and attained more advanced fundamentals behind those tests. By the way, they say that your score increases by about two points each year too. I really want to do engineering, but I dunno which one. Aeronautical, Civil, Petroleum? The schools I’m interested in is Purdue, NYU, Columbia, Texas A&M, maybe Stanford, MIT, and schools of that caliber.

BTW, I want a school with a great engineering program so I can have a better chance of having a good job afterwards.

You don’t wanna go into Civil Engineering… My dad’s a civil engineer, read my chance thread and you’ll see what he makes haha.

Those tippy top schools like Stanford, Mit, Columbia, Caltech, etc, are all out of the question with a 30, sorry. Now if you had a 33, that’d be another story. Other great engineering schools would be Cornell, Georgia Tech, and Harvey Mudd. You’d have a chance at Georgia Tech, UCB NYU, Texas A&M, and Purdue, albeit a somewhat slim one. Carnegie Mellon has a great engineering program, as well as a great computer science program, though most of these schools do too, if that interests you. Keep in mind, these are reaches for you, so even if you apply to all of the schools mentioned above, you may not be admitted to any, though you could grab a few admission letters, it’s all to chance. Applying to any schools that you mentioned but I didn’t (Stanford, MIT, Columbia, and Caltech, would be a waste of time and money, which could be spent on other applications.) Look into some in-state schools that have acceptance rates in the 35%+ range, you’ll have much better chances there, and the financial burden will be substantially less. If you do have to go to a less selective or lower-ranked school, you can always transfer. What state do you live in, and of what race are you?

I live in Oklahoma and I am 2nd generation Portuguese-Italian.

Hmm, the University of Oklahoma and the University of Tulsa both have engineering programs that aren’t atrocious… Look into those. Also look into Auburn University (in Alabama), it has a pretty good engineering program and you could probably get in, though I make no promises baha. The University of Alabama also has a so-so engineering department, and I’m sure you’d be in if you applied there. Right now I’d say look into Auburn, Purdue, NYU, Georgia Tech, and Texas A&M, although they’re all a bit reach-y. Is being “Portugese” classified as Latin American, thus a URM? If you it is, your chances increase.

I think so. I dunno. Ill look into that. Hmm, I’ve seen people with garbage background in highschool and make it to good colleges. I know for a fact I can do wayy better than OU. A girl made a 16 on her ACT and got accepted there.

I agree with you there haha. But hmm, you have a great application until your ACT score comes into play… If you could get a 33 you’d be in really good shape.

Yeah. My junior year started so I still have a lot of time. Who knows, maybe ill get lucky or my hard work will pay off come time for the ACT. I just know that I bust my butt in school so I better get a nice gift in return.

I feel the same way, realllllly hoping for a 2100.

Oh yeah, Brazilian-Portuguese qualifies for a URM. Hopefully I qualify for it.

Then your chances improve substantially. Wish I was a URM haha.
