My Best Friend Is Screwed For College

My best friend is an aspiring European Studies major. She’s a rising junior and she just got a 680 on her World History SAT II. She would like to ask should she retake it? Or just try to get a 700+ on a European language SAT II?

Thanks

bump…

Saying “screwed for college” is a bit extreme, especially since many colleges don’t even require subject tests. A 680 isn’t an absolutely terrible score (definitely doesn’t constitute “screwed”) but if your friend wants to emphasize her interest in European studies, I think she should retake it if she has the time/resources.

Haha, hyperbole.

680’s a solid score except for top schools. She should retake in October, though.

Just curious, why does she like European Studies so much; AP Euro was a pain for me. :</p>

^same here!

bump…

Btw, she’s Asian.

definitely retake. Maybe rethink major?

Well, her other choice is Geology or Environmental Studies, but she “only” got a 92 in a regular Earth Science class, so that’s not going to work. Maybe she should try Biology Ecological or Chemistry if she switches to that major.

World history is only offered in june and december

I feel bit hurt… She likes ap euro cus she’s asian…??

No I mean it’s weird that she likes euro because she is asian. I mean ihave you heard of an asian that want to major in euro or likes euro?

I don’t know why she likes euro.

I also don’t want my friend to look like this test score obsessive student. She has retaken 2 regents exams before and I don’t want to make her look bad by retaking this SAT II. Are you guys sure she should retake this test or should she just take other exams?

I think she should just take other exams and do 700+ on those. Taking two languages would look better than a 680 EURO and, say, 750+ World, IMO. If she like European studies, don’t make her switch to Chemistry! She could always use score choice if she’s concerned about the 680.
Yeah, so how strong is she in languages?
And my teachers told me that colleges can’t tell if you retook a Regents exam. If they do, i’m screwed cuz i retook Geometry last summer cuz I got a 98 in June for making a rounding error -_- I was *ed at myself because I deserved a *ing hundred. TELL ME THIS ISN’T TRUE

I think it depends on the school. Most NY schools, if not all, would print your Regents scores on your transcript. I don’t necessarily know about retakes, but my friend’s school prints retakes in an extraneous box on the transcript that is usually used for number of absenses/lates, any suspensions, college classes over the summer, etc.

My friend is good at French, but she only got an 85 on the French Regents. However, she says the FL Regents don’t really test how much foreign language you know, because you can study but you still might not get a good score. She says she feels much comfortable with the SAT II French. Plus, I think she is taking the SAT II German next spring, because she apparently knows that language well too.

A “friend” huh…

Well, you can’t just assume that every thread I make is for me, because that would be too selfish.

And btw, I go to the same school as her, in the same grade, and am very close to her, so yeah, I would know a lot about her.
