My CCC counselor must've been high...

savedbythebell,

It depends on your career track.

I’m not saying that SDSU isn’t a good program, but I know plenty of CPAs from UCLA at the big three.

Besides, I think that some MBAs would argue that point with you.

I was making the natural assumption that this person wanted to become an accountant. I can see why a few MBAs might argue with me. But on the contrary if you have a CPA, it’s pretty easy to get hired as an accountant - gain that neccessary work experience and then further bolster your application when trying to gain access to a more prestigious MBA program. Let’s face it - UCLA and SDSU are both good routes to get a CPA. Your counselor was not high.

*The main difference- SDSU classes are essentially geared towards passing the CPA exam. UCLA is much more prestigious internationally, but of course it’s only undergraduate work and I “believe” they teach more theoretical concepts that do not show up on the CPA exam. It seems like the OP has their heart set on UCLA though, so UCLA should be their school of choice.

savedbythebell7,

The only issue I see is that if one decides to forgo the CPA exam in favor of something else, UCLA will probably provide more job options.

And I’m not saying that SDSU isn’t an excellent path, as it obviously is. And yes, UCLA does do more theory, but almost everyone I know who took the CPA exam from UCLA passed no problem.

true, true unless someone has their heart set on business. I think it’s rather ridiculous UCLA does not have a business school like HAAS set up.

Well, for one, the business-econ major does very well with placement.

If someone is dead set on being a CPA then SDSU would be a fine choice and a cheaper one as well. However, if you are undecided, then UCLA would provide you with more career options if you wanted to be able to get into more lucrative careers like IB or MC provided that you have decent grades.

As for econ, even drj said that any UC trumps the CSU’s in this department.
