my chance of transferring into Pitt? please help !!

I am a freshman at CCAC right now majoring in biology and wanna see my chance of getting into pitt main. I was a fairly good student when i was in high school, taking honors and aps, but then i got extremely sick and got horrible grades in my junior year. In fact, I was diagnosed with the brain tumor, and spent the last two years recovering from three very difficult surgeries I got. While recovering i took some online high school courses but graduated with Cs and mostly Ds, but keep in mind, i was horribly ill and couldnt even run for a year. Then i went to ccac and my first semester went well with 4.0 gpa. But I am taking calculus right now, and it seems like i will get a C in that course. I have As in all other courses, making my gpa almost 3.75. I am gonna take 3 summer courses, and 5 other courses in the fall before i transfer with 58 credits.

How is my chance of getting into pitt if I have all As in gen bio1&2, gen chem 1&2, gen physics 1&2, and many other gen ed courses but a C in Calc?

I have the essay ready to go and have a great recommendation from the biology department head and have a very solid excuse for not getting good grade in high school (brain tumor).

What are my chances? I am really nervous because of some personal issues.

I think your chances are good. Have you looked at the CCAC Pitt transfer guide? It gives some guidance on admissions criteria (including GPA) for some Pitt programs.

You should definitely apply!

I was in a very similar situation, actually. I was a very good student (4.0, top 7% in a class of 500), but had a terrible second semester junior and senior year due to extenuating circumstances. I ended up graduating with a 3.2 (unweighted) and went on to a huge but not very selective public university. After first semester I had a 4.0, but I ended up getting a few Cs - organic chem and genetics.

I applied as a transfer to Pitt with a 3.5 and was accepted at the beginning of April 2012. Just work hard on your essay and you should be fine! I didn’t submit any letters of rec, but they can only help. Good luck!
