My Chance? Please HELP!

U of M is my dream school, but after this trimesters grades, I’m worrying that it’s my reach school.

I’ve received a total of 8 B’s and my GPA UW is a 3.82. I take the hardest classes possible at my school (we only offer two AP calc and government and I already took both of them). I also took a college class that was challenging and I got a B+ both semesters. I come from a very small school where most students don’t do very well (avg. ACT score=18) and we don’t have as many opportunities as other students.

My class rank: 5/130
ACT: 28

Accomplishments:
Secretary of city youth council
Secretary of two other organizations (most likely will become president of both next year).
Has attended and interned at a national business competition for two years in a row.
NHS member
Dance for 8 years

Race: Asian
Michigan resident
Junior this year

***Has done a 2 programs through UofM
Will get one letter of rec from a UofM professor

I know I don’t stand super tall next to many applicants but do I have a good chance of getting in? Does being involved with their school by doing programs help?

Thanks for your time.

It is definitely worth applying. I think you have a chance of getting in but I don’t know how good of a chance. It’s not a slam dunk. I would consider it a low match/slight reach.

I’d say you have a chance. I would agree with res ipsa, but it largely depends on extra curriculars, the program you are looking to apply to, essays, etc. I think you will need something that sets you apart. You have a nice story coming from a small school (rural/inner city) that you may use to set yourself apart.
