My Chances at Emory University [Atlanta, Georgia]

Caucasian Female from Iowa; Would be transferring from taking 3 years at a community college (Associates in Biology and Chemistry)

ACT: Took it two times and got 25; only thing that changed was the math and science scores; May possible take again before applying to a Grad school
reading: 26
english: 25
math: 16, 18
science: 32, 29
writing: 22 (score 6)
SAT: Didn’t Take
AP Psychology: 3
AP Biology: 3
AP Chemistry: 2 (Yes, I’m aware that this is a bad score, It didn’t sit well with me when we got results, because I studied a lot for it and thought I did pretty good; the other 2 aren’t very good either psych was a bit difficult but was hoping for at least a 4 and bio was tough as our teacher didn’t cover a lot of the material that was on the test so we had to do all that ourselves…If i had gotten a 4 on either bio or chem i would’ve been the first in my comm. college to be able to skip the first year of that subject; I wouldn’t have but would have been a pretty decent accomplishment if i had)
GPA:
high school: I believe this was 3.45 unweighted
college: at this point from only having one semester combined with classes i took online during high school is about 2.5 (this is going to go up in the coming semesters; I wish I hadn’t taken college classes in high school as I don’t think i was really aware at how drastically they affected GPA)
Extracurricular:
Special Olympics Unified Partner in Bocce (2 years) and Dance (1 year)
National Honor Society (senior Year in High School)
Friendship Connections (Best Buddies Program) (all 4 years of high school and a little before that)
Volunteer:
Junior Volunteer at local hospital (1 year)
Humane society (local, city) (1 year)
Special Olympics (as well as being a unified partner, the years I wasn’t a unified partner I still helped out)
Special Olympics ‘Project Unify’ Conference (2 summers, I went to the youth summit in Charlotte North Carolina, and in New Jersey)

If there is anything else you would like to know before you let me know my chances, just tell me and i can get you the info.

(I know my chances are very slim as emory has roughly a 27% acceptance rate; I did get accepted to Creighton University and a local Private Uni in my town acceptance rates were 73% and 56% (respectively))

Forgot to mention I am currently doing work study with a biology professor at my comm college, Lab Assistant. And will be a Lab Assistant this summer with a microbiology professor!

Also, as I’m looking through other posts many people have their class rank, mine was 48/301

Do you need any more information? I’ll be happy to give some more info if it is needed to chance.

So, would you be transferring in as a junior transfer and your college GPA is a 2.5?

Im a freshman in college atm, I would be transferring as soon as I get my associates in bio and chem with is roughly 3 years…My Gpa isn’t going to stay there, I’ve somewhat calculated it and if i get A’s and B’s this semester it will be above a 3.0 and I have 2 more years to raise it even more.

So I’m assuming you are getting your associates (since you took college courses in high school) by the end of this year and hoping to be go into Emory as a sophomore transfer?

If you are going in as a sophomore transfer your HS GPA and tests scores will count. Your college GPA isn’t that great either with a GPA around 3.0. It seems like a really high reach for you at this point.

Maybe I’m missing something but what do you mean by “i have 2 more years to raise it more”

No, I did get credits in my high school career however not all of them counted towards an associates in bio and chem, therefore I will be at this comm. College for 3 years (6 semesters) in order to get my degrees. This means I will be a junior in college at this college before I transfer

Ohhh got it my bad sorry about that, I couldn’t quite understand your college situation.

So you’re thinking of transferring in two years or so…that means your high school GPA + test scores won’t count as much and it’ll be mostly about your college GPA. But I stand firm as what I said before. With a score below 3.5 GPA you will not be a competitive applicant.

Also, I would advise that you transfer after your sophomore year at the latest or else you will have to stay for college 2 more years after you transfer (for most institutions).

I’m can’t transfer my sophomore year…I’m doubling so i need that extra semester or 2 to get some of the required classes finished. I’m completely okay if I have to stay an extra two years after I transfer.

can I get some more insight on this please?

If more info is needed to chance let me know, i would like a few more opinions on this

You might get more responses on the Transfer Student board.

Ok, Thank you!
