my chances at harvard bbs phd

I am indian medical student i have first class rank in first 3 year of med school and distinction in final year according to Indian grading system.I am currently in internship and I preparing for gre but i lack of research Experiences .so I want to apply to PhD programs in USA?

You don’t go to a PhD program to get research experience. To be a strong applicant, you need to have a strong record of experience along with a good GPA and GRE. Without this, your chances of getting into Harvard BBS are essentially zero, unless you had a connection. Even so, a PhD is essentially like a job, so they want to make sure you have the credentials for it.

Thanks for reply I write it wrong what I meant was I want to prssue PhD because I am interested in research and I want to say that I have 3.6 gap and I got gold medal in my medicin exam but my weak point is I lack of research experience so my ququestion is shall I take a year gap and gain research experience or after get I shall I apply?

I think getting a 2-year job as a tech will significantly increase your chances. Why do you want to go to Harvard BBS though? It seems that you are targetting one school in particular. Admissions is incredibly competitive and your rec letters and your statement of purpose matter a LOT, more so than numbers. Most applicants have many years of experience and have plenty of PIs writing their letters rather than one alone, which is important. There’s a limit to how much a professor that only taught you in a class can say about your capacity to do research.
