My chances at MIT??????????

Wow… both of you guys are just immature.

Ranojdh, Sorry I don’t really understand - have you already applied? If so, good luck. If all goes bad, remember that you have another chance and I hope you’ll take that chance in your 12th year. If you have not applied yet:

I really advise you to apply in your last year of schooling in India. I’ve seen your awards and they are impressive but think how much more you can achieve in 2 more years. You’ll become a competitive applicant and you’ll have a greater chance of getting in.

Like others have said, take the SAT 1. TAKE IT. Study for it and take it. Just because MIT accepts TOEFL in place of SAT1 does not mean that MIT recommends TOEFL in place of SAT1.
Think of it as an optional essay for college apps. If it’s there, they most certainly want you to write it. If you don’t, they start questioning you and your commitment towards the school.

Like frankchn has said, try out for olympiads. Even if you live in a rural part of India, trying out of Olympiads is still very possible. If you have topped India in the Talent search program and the quizzes and things, you have a CHANCE of being selected for the Indian Math/Science/X Olympiad team - which is like… basically a ticket to MIT (assuming your essays and counselor recs are great). I swear, representing India in a Math olympiad is like… being a finalist in Siemens or somthing.
Look out for more things outside your community. Even though it’s isolated, if you look, you will always find. I know that India is like big on education and maybe your school doesn’t offer much ECs - but you could always create a club. Maybe a club that others might be interested in - such as creating a club to enter in the regional math championships… lol or something like that.

Congratulations with your TOEFL score! Ignore the people that are saying that 110 is not fantastic. There are so many applicants whose first language is not english that struggle to gain 100+. Your english is average/good for someone whos native language is not english, in addition to being a grade 10 student.

thnx a lot,guys,esp.nofx.thnx.ill try ur advices.
thnx again.
ranjodh.

Even my Dog, Ranjit Paliwal got 115 on TOEFL.

Few points NoFX

This fool has studied 12 years in English medium, i think Colleges would consider English as his Native language.

Essays don’t matter much, atleast not as much as they are portrayed on CC.
I meant, ‘assuming your essays and counselor recs are standard/above average’ - and that is, if one reps india in an IO.

No one in India writes true Recs
Ok. Sorry I wasn’t aware.

Getting into Indian Olympic team is not a ticket to MIT. Indian Educational system relies heavily on mugging, even in subjects like maths. There’s not a single Indian in the IMO hall of fame.
I think you misunderstood me. I meant, representing India in IMO or any other IOs, not winning the whole entire compitition. Well I looked at your link and it lists all the winners, so that’s what I’m assuming you’re trying to explain.

Really? I always thought the classes were in Indian.

What do u mean??

I think it meant to be Hindi. (Indian= language as well, which is not).

oh…is it?..I am completely bewildered then…:p…
NoFX: For ur information, most of the schools here r English medium…Hindi medium schools r now becoming rare(atleast in cities)…

he lives in a “rural part” of punjab. considering the way he writes here, i have grave doubts that he has ever gone to an english school lol.

thnx for all your criticsms.i really value it but wont respond as that is considered bad on this forum.but abhi, you r sick.thnx.
4 all ur advice.

good for u ranojdh. we all hope that u get into MIT( at least I do)

Ranojdh, why don’t you clarify what your medium of education at school was?

partly punjabi and partly english

ICSE is always in English; I don’t think that you can answer your physics paper in Punjabi:p
