My Chances for a transfer to a good school?

Hello everyone,

I’ll cut to the the chase. I would like to know my chance into getting into a decent school.

I am on my last semester for my AA at my local community college.

I graduated from high school in 2015 with around an UW3.7. I had high-ish SAT scores (no longer valid) around 1950~ out of 2400. My main strengths were that I had a nearly perfect english SAT score, was extremely active and an officer of 3 clubs as well as a member of many more. I decided to go to a state school for cheap but that’s where I spiraled.

I ended my time there with a mid 2.something GPA and after complications with paperwork (non-citizen in the process) decided to move back home and attend another school. Depressed, I ended my online semester there with something like a 1.5 :frowning:

I moved to France, realized I was foolish and came back to get my AA. I finished my degree here with a 4.0, but unfortunately, my transfer GPA is now a 2.6. :-((

I am really desperate to leave my state. I think I could get into a state school here but I am planning to do International Relations and would benefit from going somewhere in a hub like, NYC or Washington DC.

I can pull of a good essay, and am going to try my hardest by calling all the advisors ! I am really emphasizing my community involvement. To this day, I still volunteer almost weekly and landed an internship at my local Science Center.

Is any of this enough? Do I have a chance out-of-state? I know that transferring is highly competitive. My ultimate dream reach school is GW in D.C but it seems impossible :frowning:

THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME!!

American University in DC may be an option.

You need to contact the admission offices and see if they will put more emphasis on your recent grades, which are more indicative of your academic abilities than the first ones. See what they tell you.

Yo guys!!! I need help. Where on earth do we find the college report on commonapp!!! I can’t find it!!!

Can you afford GW?

What is your goal with IR? good-paying jobs in most related fields require (low paid) internships to get (low paid) work experience to get decent jobs to get into the masters program that the good jobs require. College debt will hold you back much more than not going to NYC or DC.

When checking out your state options, checking out study away programs - whether international or in DC/NYC. Those can be great programs for getting you where you want to go. Also, your internships & volunteering should at this point be aligned with your professional interests: an internship at international organization for example.
