Hello, I’m aa African-American sophomore in high school. I was simplying wondering what my chances are to get into nyu at this time currently i have B±A average in(i will explain this later) , im already taking honors ELA and Chemistry and next year will be taking A.P. english, A.P. world history and A.P. physics. Also, im on the road to receiving an advanced regents diploma since if i’ve scored in general more than 85% on all of my regents exams. In addition i have also been a proud member of the mohonasen band for a long 6 years in addition im also captain of the basedrum line in the band and we won first place in small school division 2 during my freshmen year a feat so impressive we moved up to small school division 1 and placed in 4th place out of 8th this year. I’m also school president of my school’s junior class (as decided by an election that took place last week.) Also, I often volunteer at a christain science camp and the library. To further sweeten my deal i’m also creating my own start-up company based on an invention that i created and while doing this im also managing the entire project from writing the patent, to obtaining the materials, to managing my employees without help from adults and at this rate we’ll be selling by next year. Finally, i also participate in the science olympiad and keep up a blog about prototypes. As for the SAT’s i know they play key role in my acceptance and will be taking them next year. To explain for my B±A average i’ve had a preatty rough 2 years of highschool my sister came down with an extremely rare case of dsytonia and often had seizures aswell as other horrifying symptoms the entire fiasco lasted for 2 years and it caused a whoolllleee lot of stress on me and was preatty distracting; fortunately as of recent (due to my sister’s sudden recovery) i’ve been able to once again raise my grades. In conclusion, I come from a small town in upstate new york and I badly want to see the world for what it really is so at this point in time do you think that my chances of getting into nyu are looking good? Also, what advice would you give to help improve my chances? Thank you from deep inside my heart I greatly appreciate you reading this and please respond :)

Otherwise, what you should be doing is taking the toughest courses you can, getting the highest grades on them and practicing like crazy for the SATs. THose are pretty much what will hike up your chances. High grades and test scores.

Also make sure you have a good school in mind that you and your family can afford that you are sure will accept you. That should be your main school. The rest is all gravy. Though NYU is need blind, it does not tend to meet full need and it is an expensive school.

seriously. just to show you how much you can find out from just your post, I googled your name w/ your high school & found your facebook page, which automatically gives me more info than just anyone should be able to have. take the personal info off.

Definitely work on what was mentioned above.

More importantly, work on your writing skills – you use ‘also’ far too much; you use ‘In addition’ too much in a single sentence; and there are just general syntax and grammar mistakes interspersed throughough.

Also, paragraphs are your friend. Giant block of text is visually yucky.

You have decent chances, although it’s hard to tell without SAT scores. Good amount of extracurriculars. it’ll help that you’re a minority. You seem confident in “selling” yourself so do your best and I hope you get in!

One more addition:

In my above post it should be read “…interspersed throughout.”

Secondly, because it’s really bothering me (I apologize for my comments coming off as potentially harsh, I do not intend them that way; merely grammar, syntax and the like are at pet peeve of mine, having studied extensive philosophy) twice your in post you used the following word, spelled the same way: “preatty”. The spelling you are looking for is “pretty”.
