Wondering if I should apply to NYU and more selective colleges. if I apply to more selective schools I will apply as a history major

Essays should be good, because ill be working with college advisors

I assume you are a CA residence since you are a CSF member. You should apply and see what happens. Your EC and the upward GPA trend is good. The SAT is okay and maybe can be a little higher. The downside is that your total unweighted GPA is low (below 3.5) which tells me you have more B’s than A’s. It would help if you write a great essay. Apparently since you can afford a private college like NYU, consider other T30 out of state publics such as Michigan. Good luck.

Michigan is not a good idea with that GPA/SAT. It will be a massive reach.

Look towards OOS publics like Arizona, Arizona State, and Utah as matches. Top 30 will be a reach.

Not looking towards publics, because I can get better financial aid at private schools. Forgot to include a 780 in US history and will take the ACT. However, Ill be applying to NYU as ed, which means I will have to use that 1400 score. Is there any private schools that I reasonable reach 5-10% chance for me.

I strongly doubt that you will get good financial aid at NYU. They don’t promise to meet need, they have a long-standing reputation for not being generous with aid, they are one of the most expensive schools in the country, and your stats put you in the bottom half (SAT) / bottom 20% (GPA) of admitted students - ie, not a student they are likely to try and woo with money.

Not a Top-30 school, but Babson might be worth a application. The current numbers might line up.

I might try some of the SF Bay Area Catholic schools (USF, St. Mary’s) as well. Some East Coast Catholic schools like Fordham, Holy Cross, and St. John’s would be worth considering.

NYU Stern with a 3.4 UW is a definite reach.

I consider T30 in the “a reach for everybody” category. Your GPA and test scores are on the low side for that level. You’ve got some excellent ECs, but they appear unrelated, a little scattered (but we don’t have the details either). It isn’t clear if you want to be in business, in politics, or in the medical field. You didn’t say if your internship and volunteering was done in one summer or over four years, but that will make a difference in how colleges evaluate your depth of involvement.

Apply to several match and likely schools, and AFTER those applications are submitted then think about taking your chances in the T30 lottery.

You’d have a much better shot starting at schools ranked 30-80 where the 3.4gpa would be more competitive

The Law internship I have been doing for all four years of high school and I did volunteering for all four years of high school

I realized that and I will apply to NYU as a history major because I love the study abroad opportunity NYU offers, and maybe I can visit some historical sites during my study because it doesn’t do justice about reading it in a history book.

Also, I’m a huge Formula 1 fan so I would love to watch some races in person(I know this is an irrelevant fact, but just another reason why NYU is my first choice)
