I know how competitive Stanford is and I just wanted to get an idea of my chances of getting into such a high-level school (currently it would probably be my reach school).
I’m currently a rising junior, so I don’t have any SAT scores yet. But I do have a math level II SAT score, which I scored a 750 on. I’ll be taking Calc AB this upcoming year.
Should I be worried about taking this SAT subject test again?
P.S. If it helps you, I currently go to an international school (one that colleges, especially Ivy Leagues, know well), have been in both varsity XC and track since the 9th grade, and went to basically what is our version of regionals here. I’ve placed in the top 15 (top 15 are awarded medals) in one of our big meets (out of over a 100 girls) in both my freshman and sophomore year (15th my freshman year and 3rd my sophomore year) , placed 2nd in a new big regionals meet that we went to this year, and placed within top 5 in my school’s league. As for my track record, my freshman year in our big meet and league championship, I placed 2nd in the 3200, 4th in the 1600, and won first with my 4x800 relay team (as well as set a Pacific record). This past year I placed 2nd in the 3200 with a time of 11:23.32, 3rd in the 1600 (5:21.00), and 2nd with m 4x800 relay team (though we still hold the record). My coach thinks that at this rate I can use my running as an incentive for colleges to admit me. True or not true?
Sorry this is so long, and thank you for reading this far down!
It is recommended for Ivy League schools to submit more than one subject test, but you do not need to retake the math II because it is a good school. I have no idea for your running if that will help you if you want to do it in college, but being outstanding in an area looks very good
Oh, aha, yeah, probably should’ve mentioned that I do plan on taking one of the biology SAT subject tests, the APuSH one, and possibly English this upcoming school year. I’m also taking five AP courses this year.
Your scores and schedule seem fine, and it looks like you have everything in place to do well next year, and to do well in the admissions process. Just keep doing what you’ve been doing now, and don’t overstress about subject tests.
With your track/xc times now, you could contact solid D3 schools (JHU, Tufts, Amherst, Williams, etc.) about recruiting and you might be able to get some help getting in from coaches. A 5:21/11:20 girl isn’t turning heads from most D1 schools, but if you can drop to around 5:05/10:50 next year, keep your grades up, and get solid test scores, you could realistically look to get recruited by some ivies.
Stanford athletics are a whole different ballgame–they’re looking to recruit girls running in the 4:40/10:10 range, and they aren’t fond of walk-ons, so if you want to run for your school’s team in college, Stanford may not be a good bet.
Thank you for replying! Yeah, right now I don’t even really know if I’m going to run competitively in college or not. Currently I’m relying more on my grades and other passions (such as writing). Running just happens to be a plus, even though it is an activity that I really do enjoy.
But thank you again for the reply! (:
I’m not sure if running will help you, but if it would you should definitely try to get recruited. Make sure you get good essays and recs and some leadership positions and you’ll have as good a chance as anyone.
Chance me back:
