My chances in these universities

Hi, I’m a student from Uruguay planning to go to University in Fall 2014. I’ve made a list of my favourite universities (I’ll study Computer Science or Computer Engineering) but I don’t know what my chances are, and well, of course that I would like to know in order to avoid wasting time and money on applications.

My GPA is somewhere between 2.6 and 2.8 (I haven’t converted it yet but I know it is in that range) and also I haven’t taken the SAT, but I’ll like to know my chances in this range, 1700 to 2000. I’ve done tons of extracurricular activities, so that won’t be a problem.

The list of universities I plan to apply are:

Illinois State University
Iowa State University
Kansas State University
Ohio University
Mississippi State University
University of North Carolina - Charlotte
Appalachian State University
East Carolina University
University of Oklahoma
Texas State University
Texas Tech University
West Virginia University
California State University - Chico
Boise State University
University of Idaho
Oregon State University
Utah State University

Thank you very much in advance.

Charlie

I need another point of view with these universities, thanks

If you are thinking of engineering, make sure that the schools you apply to have an engineering college. I don’t believe Illinois State has engineering.

If you want to determine which of these universities are good matches for your academic record and which are reaches, you should look at the Common Data Set information for these universities once you have your test scores. Then you can see where you fall among their admitted students pool.

One other thing, work hard this year and see if you can pull up your GPA. It will give you a better chance to get into some of the more selective schools on your list.

I think you have a decent chance at most of the schools, but I agree with the previous poster that a 3.0 or higher would make your admissions a lot smoother. Oh, and coming from Idaho myself, I really recommend Boise State if you are certain about Computer Sciences. BSU has a great relationship with Micron that a lot of people don’t know about. U of I, I’m not so sure.

You’ll definitely get in West Virginia and East Carolina.
