My chances of admission at Appalachian State or other NC universities?

My first college choice is Appalachian State in Boone, NC. Even though I realize that it won’t be the end of the world if I am not accepted, I am still very worried because it is the only school I really want to go to. Here are my credentials;

*3.75 weighted GPA
*Ranked 42nd in my class (top 25%)
*SAT: Math: 480; Reading: 500; Writing 530
*Taken many honors courses and two AP courses
*Double Legacy of Appalachian State (mother and father both attended)
*Beta Club Secretary
*National Forensic League Degree of Honor
*Competitive Speech and Debate member
*Served as freshman reporter
*Fellowship of Christian Athletes
*Served on many mission trips, including one in Ecuador.

While it may sound like a have an okay chance of getting in, many of my friends applying have a lot better GPAs and ranks than I do, and I don’t feel like I am very competitive as far as my application goes. Can someone, not knowing me, give me a real opinion on my chances at Appalachian? Thanks!

[Student Information 2011-2012 - Factbook](<a href=“Fact Book | Institutional Research, Assessment and Planning”>Fact Book | Institutional Research, Assessment and Planning) might help you gauge where you are relative to recent freshman classes.

I don’t have any personal knowledge/experience with Appalachian, but these numbers should give you an idea.

Mid-50% SAT - CR 520/610, M 530/620, W 500/590;
Class ranks - top 10% 18%; top 25% 55%
GPA - 3.75 or higher 67%

If your stats are on the higher end, you’d have a better chance.

The whole CDS is here, http://www1.appstate.edu/dept/irp/IR/CDS/UpdatedNewCDS_2011-2012.pdf

I thought of applying there also,but gave up…instead applying to UNC Asheville

Well,I’m not sure about your GPA,giving it’s a bit lower than there average (but still good).

Your SAT scores are also lower than average,especially math (in 2009 the average for app was 550-630 in math)

The activities on the other hand are good…so it really depends

I think you have a 50-70% chance of getting accepted,since they enroll almost 3,000 freshman…and there admission acceptance is around 60%.

Good luck!
