Stats:
Sophomore
3.9 GPA
31 ACT
Haven’t taken SAT

I’m wondering about my odds for the 2018 class. During Junior year I will take 3 AP classes, and hope to maintain a high GPA as I have now. My extracurriculars include the school newspaper (which I founded), Varsity Tennis, Key Club, National Honor Society and I plan on joining at least two more clubs next year. I volunteer frequently and will continue over the summer. I also write a monthly article for a local newspaper outside of school and film for a local videography company. Does this sound sufficient to be accepted to Columbia?

how many b’s did u get?

I got 1 B in Algebra II during my Sophomore year.

Don’t join more clubs just to have them on your brag sheet, join them because you’re really passionate about the subjects. Everyone who applies to Columbia is a member of a set of impressive clubs/organizations, what differentiates you is your passion about x and y subjects that you’ve committed to through those clubs. Also, your ACT is a tad on the low side. You’ll want to aim for a 33/34 or an SAT of 2250+. Finally, try to enjoy yourself a little. Don’t spend the next two years obsessing over stats and admissions decisions - schools like Columbia have extremely low admit rates (7.4% for Columbia College class of '16) and have to turn down tons of qualified applicants every year.

I went to Columbia today on a school trip! I’m from Brooklyn, NY and I got some interesting information about admission requirements. For one they said that they look at your SAT and ACT but what’s more important is the type of person you are! Also, the middle percentile that gets accepted has a 28-32 ACT or between a 2000 and 2100 on SAT! They also told me that they look at your transcript before anything! So your doing just FINE! Btw I’m only a sophomore just like you
[I’m guessing Class of 2018
)

“Also, the middle percentile that gets accepted has a 28-32 ACT or between a 2000 and 2100 on SAT!”

Not sure where you got this information from. It’s definitely not correct.

<a href=“BigFuture College Search”>BigFuture College Search;

The middle percentile range of accepted students is 32-35 on the ACT.

For SAT’s, the middle percentile ranges are 700-780 Critical Reading, 700-790 Math, and 700-790 Writing. So, a score between 2000 and 2100 would be very low.

It’s possible that the ranges you’ve cited are for URM’s, although I’ve never seen those statistics before.

I Wemt to Columbia Yesterday On a tour and information session so yeah…I got Pretty Accurate Info!
