My chances of getting into Cornell, Truman, or Mizzou?

Hi I’m new here but I was wondering if you guys could tell me my chances of getting into any of these schools?

ACT: 27
GPA: 4.0
volunteering: 80 hours or so, hopefully more(I volunteer at a library)

Clubs: Co-captain of the Debate Team for a year, 4 years in HOSA president for 2, Outdoor Adventure Club, Trust(it’s another health club), National Honor Society, Annual Staff, Scholars Bowl
Won a local essay contest
Won third place for Delta Kappa Gamma state essay contest
Various awards throughout high school for different subjects
Hopefully Valedictorian
Muslim Girls Youth Group

Took AP chem, AP bio, AP U.S. History, AP Calculus, Duel Enrollment Prop&Stats (I opted to not take the tests because I want to have these classes i college, is that a disadvantage for me?) I tried to keep a pretty good schedule with classes like Physics, Chem II, Bio II, Health Science, EMS, Med. Therapuetics, Clinicals(I’m going into pre med), honors classes as well
In the top 5% of my school, but the school is relatively small

I’m worried because my school doesn’t offer as much in terms of classes and E.C.

If this helps I’m Indian and out of state!

Cornell: Reach. Weak ACT, EC’s are not comparable to others, etc.

Cornell is a reach. You have a good GPA and it seems you take advantage of most opportunities available at your school but ACT is a little low and you have a lot of EC’s so it seems you have more breadth than depth. But Cornell is going to be a reach regardless, it is for everyone.

Mizzou is a safety. Your ACT score puts you right at the 75th percentile and Mizzou accepts over 80% of applicants. You should have no problem getting in here.

Truman State is a match. Your scores put you right at the 50th percentile, and again most applicants are accepted.

Cornell: Reach
Truman: Safety
UMO: Safety

Thanks guys! Do you think writing a really good essay would increase my chane of getting into Cornell?

It may increase your chances, although to what extent would be unknown. It may just be a minuscule advantage overall in comparison to your fellow applicants, as most other students will display themselves eloquently in almost every other aspect of the app. You should strive to be adept in each sector of the app.

The priority for you currently is to enhance your ACT score. If you are having trouble getting to at least a 33, preferably a 34, then I suggest you take a crack at the SAT. I know some people that do extremely well at one test, while at the same time do poorly on another. Another thing that will make your resume better is to show focus in your ECs. Do these two things, and your chances increase. Good luck!

Assuming you’ve completed the coursework required for Mizzou ([High school coursework | Undergraduate Admissions | University of Missouri](http://admissions.missouri.edu/apply/freshmen/requirements/high-school-coursework.php) ) you’re guaranteed admission.

For Truman State, make sure to apply by December 1 because assuming your GPA is a 4.0 UW, you qualify for a $5,000/ year scholarship [Truman Scholarships - Office of Admission - Truman State University](<a href=“Admission | Truman State University”>Admission | Truman State University)

Cornell is going to be nearly impossible to get into, but still try for it.

Thanks, is there an honors program at Truman? I’m already aware of the one at Mizzou.

[Honors Scholar Program | Truman State University](http://honors.truman.edu/) No idea how developed it is, but there you go. It should be noted that one of the greatest benefits of an honors college comes from smaller intro classes which I believe Truman State already has.

Hey could you guys tell me when I can start filling out applications for Truman and Mizzou? I’m having trouble finding the date, I’m going to be going in the Fall of 2014.

You can probably get into Mizzou and Truman. Cornell is a high reach unless you bring the ACT up to at least a 32 or a 2100 on the SAT to be competitive.

Truman Application: [Application for Admission - Office of Admission - Truman State University](<a href=“Admission | Truman State University”>Admission | Truman State University)

Mizzou Application: [Apply | Undergraduate Admissions | University of Missouri](Apply // Mizzou Admissions // University of Missouri)

Just wondering why do you want to come to Missouri if you are out of state?

There’s only one reason to come to Mizzou if you’re out-of-state: journalism!

What’s your home state?

Where did the OP say that she was OOS?

Second post. “If it helps I’m Indian and out of state!”

My parents heard good things about the school and also there’s a good med program. I live in Tennessee.

@Smithg1227 haha thanks, but let me guess you’re really smart right? I feel so incredibly below average when I think about college.

Strengths: essay awards, GPA
Weaknesses: ACT, too many loosely correlated ECs

Mizzou: safety
Truman: low match
Cornell: low reach/reach

Unfortunately Indian is listed under Asian so you’ll have a lot of competition there!

Good luck :)
