<p>I am an international student (Ukrainian). I have applied, and got into the North Carolina State University last year; however, due to unforseen circumstances, meaning my father was uneployed at the time, I decided to go with a cheaper option. That option was one of the Federal Service Academies (can’t tell you exactly which one, because some of my classmates might read this and make my life even more unpleasant). I went to an American high school in NJ, and finished with 3.95 GPA. SAT and ACT are relative to what my HS gpa was. I was also involved in three sports and won several awards, including the national honors society. When I started attending the Academy, I was extremely sceptical about what I got into. I want to be a computer hardware engineer, and I can only be a mechanical engineer coming out of the Academy. About a month ago I decided to apply to the NCSU as a transfer student.
I am very nervous about getting in, because my first trimester I got a 2.98 GPA (enough to put me in the top 10% of my class), and this trimester I am running a 3.3 GPA. My application is under review right now. Should I be worried at all about getting in? (By the way, my father got a much better job the week before I had to report to the Academy).</p>
<p>… I thought you had to be a US citizen to go to the service academies.</p>
<p>You can attend a federal academy if you are an international, but a large portion of the tuition has to be paid. If a citizen, then tuition is practically free.</p>
