Hello, I have been accepted to Penn State two years ago and had already spent my first year in Penn State, however I have underestimated college and have not done well in academics that I have been dropped to Non-Degree Conditional status, or as they call it NDEGC. But I still want to continue and study as a student for College of Arts and Architecture specifically in the landscape architecture department. According to the guidelines, I would have to spend a year with a high GPA including my summer to reaccept myself into the program however being a former student in the program would not assure me to get accepted into the program and if i do not get accepted into the program, I would have to keep attending school as a NDEGC until they accept my academic improvement so that I could continue my study as a landscape architecture student and get a degree. I have asked my advisor straightforward of what is my chance to be reaccepted to the program and she hasn’t been giving me a direct answer, and it is important for me to know especially that my family aren’t very wealthy and there is no nearby community college to attend to, therefore I can’t afford to go to Penn State for a year and then find out that I would have to keep attending and paying for school without going nowhere near to getting my degree. So that is why I ask for any people who are or were in a similar situation as me and can give me a bit more advice or info that could help me. Thank you
What’s your current GPA?
What classes did you fail?
Get a D in?
What happened - why were your grades so low (IE., material too hard, skipped class, gaming, partying, b/gf…)
Did you go to office hours? Writing center? Tutoring center?
My current gpa is lower than 2.0, I failed many class, and I failed too hard because some materials were too hard. I did go to some office hours but I didn’t go much to have the professor or TAs to remember me
Why is the material too hard? Are you trying to do a major you’re not prepared for? Did you try to skip some pre-requisites? Is it your level fo English?
How can you analyze the problem?
Are you at University Park?
What secondary schoolbackground do you have? GPA or equivalent, type of diploma, SAT/ACT/AP/TOEFL…?
If you can’t pinpoint the problems, and find solutions, no you can’t recover, because if you don’t know the exact problem you can’t fix it. If you pinpoint the problems, you can list them and we can try and help you so that you work on fixing them.
