Okay, so I’m hoping for UCLA and some of you remember from my last post but I’ll rewrite my stuff here.

Biology Major

GPA: 3.88
Pre-reqs done by Spring (got a D in General Chem which is a pre-req, due to many missed lectures because taking care of my family while my dad was recovering from colon cancer. I will wrote about this in the additional info section. Retook the class and got an A)

IGETC certified by end of Spring semester

TAP certified by Spring semester.

Plan to finish strongly recommended classes for major (2nd semester of Organic Chem, 1 year calc based physics.) Just have 2nd semester of Organic Chem and 2nd semester of Physics left for Spring.

kind of weak ECs

Piano 2 years
Guitar 4 years
Some hospital volunteering (6 months)

I’d say you have a very good shot, especially since your GPA is pretty high and you’re TAP. Don’t worry too much about your ECs since UCs dont really put that much weight on them unless you’re applying to Haas or other intensive programs at the other UCs.

Of course there is a chance you won’t get in… But that GPA is pretty good and the TAP would probably “cancel out” any lack of extracurriculars. And yes, taking care of your family while your dad was suffering from colon cancer is seen by the UC’s as an extracurricular even if it’s not listed in the EC box.

lol thank you for that reality. I got to know that there’s always a chance I won’t get in so that just have to turn that into motivation for me. I’m a hopeful such as yourself :)

@mikei

thank you very much for the response. I really hope I do as well.
