My Chances with ED

I have taken all honors and AP classes from my sophomore year on, usually getting B's in my AP's and A's in honors. I have a 3.9 GPA. I am the creator and the president of a club called the Livestrong Club (I think the name is self-explanatory). I am in NHS and have dedicated many hours volunteering for a local foundation that provides funds to families with terminally ill children. I have other small EC's and volunteer activities but those are my three main ones. My SAT's are below average for Duke, about an 1820, but I still have to take the ACT. I am a cancer survivor so I will be able to write a solid essay on that topic and also have reasoning behind my extracurricular involvement. My only hook is that I'm a legacy.

Do I have any chance at getting in applying Early Decision?

Side Note: I am taking the SAT's one more time so I still have an opportunity to raise my scores.

You'd like to get those SATs at least into the bottom of the middle 50% to have a reasonably strong shot. Applying ED as a legacy will definitely help, but understand that the bottom 25% of SAT's at D. (or at any elite institution) includes recruited athletes, URMs, legacies of major donors, etc. Always worth a try, though.

Thanks for the input, I completely agree about the SAT scores. I'm going to do my best to bring them into the 2000 range.
