My Chances

Hey everyone, I plan to apply for early action to Texas this fall. I am Chinese, ranked in top 11% of my class, (80 out of 740), and my test scores were 1820 on SAT, and 30 on the ACT (36 on the math). I do not know my 4 point GPA scale but out of 15 i am 11.94.

I was wondering what yall think about my chances to be admitted.

Your chances are on the lower side. Your SAT isnt outstanding nad your rank is a bit low. If you have something else like great EC’s or work experiece your chances are higher but based on just your rank and SAT id say 20-40% chance

what if i don’t submit my SAT score, but just submit my ACT?

UT doesn’t have an early action program.

You can submit only the best test score, whether ACT or SAT, instead of both.

UT’s holistic review is based on two things. You’ve only addressed the academic part. The personal achievement component is very important, too–it’s based on your essays and expanded resume, plus any letters of recommendation or other optional information you supply.

Study carefully the admission web site and follow all the links to helpful information. [Be a Longhorn | Information for Prospective Students | University of Texas at Austin](http://bealonghorn.utexas.edu/)

The fact you are Chinese is irrelevant unless you are saying you are an international applicant? If that is the case, please pay special attention to the international section of the admission web site and please also understand that because so few international students are admitted, the competition is fierce. See, e.g., the data here: http://www.utexas.edu/academic/ima/sites/default/files/IMA_MEM_UGProfile_2011_Fall.pdf

Chance threads are not very reliable with regard to holistic admissions because the only people who have the correct answer are the Admission Office counselors! So just put together the best application you can and hope for a positive response.

thank you for this very detailed explanation! I am not an international student, and I had one further question: do you think my academic section meets or is near the requirements for an acceptance to UT?
