My chances

what are you worring about? your application looks great. cut back on the huge number of essays, but eveyrthing, especially EC’s look excellent. I would say that you’re set. good job.

BCgoUSC: its because when i came here in 7th grade all i did was sit at my kitchen table with a spanish-english dictionary and two copies of “don quixote”—one in english, one in spanish. i was already a big fan of language because mexico’s private schools emphasize language over science, and i went to one of the best the country offers. so, in the end, i was successful in learning english through something i already knew everything about.

thank you, hendrixelixir

i wish you the best of luck, too (if you’re applying)

or if you already got accepted, good job! :-)

I think your chances are hurt a whole lot by your guidance counselor and so many essays. My interviewer told me only to do what was recommended, meaning at most 1 extra essay (although he advised me against that). He said more than that and they get angry, so 8 will make them just mad at you. And that whole thing about an extra 150 for being a minority is complete crap. That’s the biggest lie i’ve ever heard of. harvard cares a whole lot about your personality too, so you might need to watch out for that, especially at your interview.

so true. but, i read the extra points thing in a book i have called “rock hard apps.” also, somebody in one of these forums said a princeton proffesor did some reseach and found that the ivy league automatically adds 180 or so points to non-asian minorities. so there might be some truth behind this myth. i doubt MY score will be upped, however.

you’re sure of berkeley as a backup?
wow…
i know UCs mainly go by scores, but i also know a 1540/3.8 that got rejected o.O

the other two-third of his/her application (EC’s, three tiny essays) must not have been too appealing then

and who are you to assume?

umm, berkeley (like all UC’s) is very clear and open about how they reach decisions

look on their website
