My chances

I’m a sophomore. My current GPA is 3.71 weighted. I’m taking 2 honors classes now and 2 APs next year and 2 more APs my senior year. Ill be a 4 year varsity swimmer. I am a girlscout I have my bronze, silver and gold award. I’m in ASB. I was VP last year, student affairs this year, spirit director next year and hopefully ASB president my senior year. I have gotten plenty academic recognition awards as well as do a ton of community service, including starting my own non profit. I have two jobs and have taken 2 college classes. I took my PSAT and got a 1700 so I’m assuming my SAT will increase from this. I’m living in CA and really want to go to UCSB. I am a legacy there, three of my cousins went there. I am also looking into UCSD. Do I have a shot?

The PSAT only goes to 240 I thought? I know they have redone it/ are redoing it but I’m not sure if they have administered the new test version yet. Anyway you may want to try to bring your GPA up a little and aim for 2000+ on your SAT

  1. Legacy not considered at the UC’s.
  2. You need to calculate your UC GPA at the end of Junior year using only 10-11th grades. http://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
  3. The average UC GPA for UCSB last year was 4.03 SAT: 1925
The average UC GPA for UCSD last year was 4.13 SAT: 2018
These are the averages, so you want to be at or above these stats for the best chances. It will also depend upon your intended major, so STEM majors especially will be even more competitive.

Your EC’s/Jobs look good. Spend time on your essays this summer. Apply broadly and include UCSC/UCR and some Cal states on your list for matches and safeties since UC admissions have been very unpredictable.

Good Luck.
