I am an International seeking Aid

ummm grades and boards?

just letting you know if you didn’t, international students aren’t eligible for need -based financial aid.

These are the ones that you can get/apply for:
http://www.bu.edu/admissions/apply/int_financial.html</a></p>

BU will be giving out need based awards to Internationals this year or so I have heard. So what about my chances? :)

Number of years of involvement in key extracurriculars is more “telling” than the laundry list of accolades you’ve provided us, as schools are interested in studnts who demonstrate devotion and passion to a few activities rather than a dabbling in many. It’s hard to tell from what you’ve written here what the story is.

But even more important than that, what is your GPA, SAT scores, level of classwork (number of AP courses given what is available at your school)?

I don’t know where you’ve heard that internationals will be receiving need based awards this year, but I think that’s highly unlikely as per http://www.bu.edu/admissions/apply/int_financial.html</a>.

The Trustee and University scholarships, which are merit based ARE open to internationals, however. Doesn’t look like you’re Italian so don’t think you’d qualify for the Pasquale Freda Scholarship…

According to http://www.bu.edu/admissions/apply/int_financial.html</a></p>

"Scholarships For International Students

There are three kinds of merit awards available to international students:

Trustee Scholarship
The Trustee Scholarship recognizes truly outstanding high school seniors with a four-year (full tuition and certain mandatory fees) merit award. Principals or headmasters of schools must nominate Trustee Scholar candidates. Nomination letters and accompanying materials, including application, must be received at Boston University by December 1.

Nomination and essay forms are available online at the Trustee Scholars site.

Recipients’ average high school GPA: 3.90
Average rank in class: top 2 percent
Average SAT score: Critical Reading and Math = 1512, Writing = 750
Average ACT score: 34

(This profile does not constitute a statement of eligibility criteria.)

University Scholarship
University Scholarships are awarded by the University to students with exceptional academic records. This four-year, half-tuition, renewable scholarship reflects Boston University’s commitment to excellence in academic achievement.

Recipients’ average high school GPA: 3.80
Average rank in class: top 5 percent
Average SAT score: Critical Reading and Math = 1417, Writing = 700
Average ACT score: 31

(This profile does not constitute a statement of eligibility criteria.)

Pasquale Freda Scholarship
The Pasquale Freda Scholarship is designed to acknowledge Italian students with strong academic records who wish to study in the United States and who have the potential to thrive at Boston University. A four-year scholarship to Boston University, covering full undergraduate tuition and room and board, will be awarded to a student whose secondary school record demonstrates high academic achievement and who is accepted for admission to, and enrolls in, a full-time undergraduate program at Boston University. Although priority will be given to students from the Province of Avellino, particularly the town of San Nicola Baronia, students from throughout Italy are eligible to apply. In addition to the academic criteria required for admission to Boston University, students must demonstrate English language proficiency by submitting the results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Complete applications are due by January 1. For more information on the Pasquale Freda Scholarship, please contact the Office of Admissions by telephone at 1-617-353-4492 or by e-mail at intadmis@bu.edu.

Need-Based Financial Aid Policy For International Students

Financial aid from Boston University is not available to international students. For general information about financial assistance, students may request the booklet “Financial Planning for Study in the United States” from the U.S. Information Agency or binational advising center in their home country.

International students pay the same tuition as U.S. students. Please consult our current tuition rates.

United States citizens and U.S. permanent residents who need information about federal, state, and University financial aid programs, eligibility determination, and application procedures should contact the Office of Financial Assistance, 881 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston, Massachusetts 02215
(Tel: 1-617-353-2965). "

Well about the devotion to my activites, as you can see most of them are awards. So I cannot possibly give the amount of time devoted to each of them :)

About the Need-Based awards I had written to BU’s Admission office and had recieved a positive reply.

I still havent taken my SATs. I will be taking them in October and Nov. I have been scoring 2200 on my practice SATs, if that helps ;)

And our school does not GPA or APs, that is why I had mentioned my Rank.

Cheers!

I think BU’s financial aid policy for internationals changed this year and the info posted on the website may not be accurate.

Yes, the international aid policy has changed. BU is trying to bring more economic diversity to BU from overseas.
