My Chances

I wasn’t even thinking about applying to stanford because I thought they required the SAT II’s
but I just found out that they don’t

Stats
ACT:30
no SAT
Female
Middle Eastern
I attend a public school in a small town in Iowa
4.0 unweighted GPA
Ranked number 1
I’ve taken honors courses all throughout highschool
and I haven’t taken any AP’s yet
but senior year I’m taking
AP Chem
AP Psychology
AP Great Books
AP Comp and Rhet
AP Calculus

Extra curriculars:
Band and Jazz Bands for 4 years
I’ve taken piano for 12 years
I have a job at a resturant
I’ve been a camp counselor
I’ve been on the school tennis team for 3 (going on 4 years)
I’ve been the secretary of the spanish club
I made all state piano in 9th grade

I know I’m lacking the SAT and my ACT isn’t the highest and I don’t have the best EC
but would my location and ethnicity help increase my chances?

AP Great Books?..

its a reading and literature class

But how can it be AP if theres no test on it…

I honestly hate it when people are too dumb to put two and two together and then try to get witty and sarcastic. Obviously she just said it was a reading and literature class, so I would assume that she’s taking AP literature and comp next year like many seniors in high school. It takes about three seconds of thinking to figure that out.

Anyway, I think that your chances are weak since you have very few ongoing ECs (save music i guess) and since your ACT is relatively low. At this point, I think your best bet is to retake the ACT and shoot for a 34-36. Also, focus on your essays and show them why they should take you because they seem to respond well to stuff like that.

Good luck, and maybe you should take some SAT IIs (at least 2). That will open up the number of schools you have the ability to apply to a tenfold so that even if you don’t get into Stanford, you can still go to a great school.

my schedule says Great Books II AP
I’m sure I would probably take the literature AP test
but thats besides the point of the thread…

AP “Great Books II” could be one of those regular class with the prefix “AP”. I don’t think collegeboard views such courses as Advance Placement.

ok… but thats not the point of this thread…

Your location and ethnicity aren’t going to affect your chances at admission. I agree with eating food that you should retake the ACT and take SAT II’s. Even though Stanford doesn’t specifically say they require them, you will be in an applicant pool where almost all the applicants will have taken them, so you would be at a disadvantage to not take them.

Your chances right now aren’t that high, but I think if you write some good essays that demonstrate your passion for being in band, I think you might have a shot.

what are some good SAT II’s to take
I know there are two math tests
I’ve taken math up to pre calculus so far so which test would be better?
I’m not the best in spanish and english
I’ve taken an honors chemistry course
but I’m not sure if I’m well prepared for the chemistry test

Take at least a math test and one other subject test that you feel comfortable with.

Right now sure, you may have a shot, but realistically you aren’t competitive. Your ACT score if too low, especially given the lack of other more specific subject testing to put what is perhaps a fluky score into context.
