my chances?

I applied to Rice regular decision and I want to know what you guys think my chances are of getting in.

SAT composite: 2280
Math: 760
Verbal: 800
Writing: 720

I’m also taking/have taken 8 AP courses/tests (with 5’s in all of them so far). My GPA weighted is 4.2, unweighted 3.9. I’m also a National Merit Semifinalist.

Other random info…I’m from Pennsylvania (hope that regional diversity will help me out!), I’ve been in my school’s marching band for 5 years (leadership position for 2), and various other high school clubs for 2-3 years. I’ve attended summer science programs at 2 colleges. Oh and I’m (potentially) looking at bioengineering as a major at Rice.

So…what are my chances?? Any thoughts/comments are most appreciated!

You have a good chance.

Oh and I forgot to mention I’m a white female. :)

I’m also a Kipling fan, assuming you’re referring to Rudyard. And EXCELLENT chance. Being white won’t help, but being a female should seeing as it’s predominantly male school and most places would like to be 50-50.

Not predominantly male (except in the grad school). Undergrad is almost 50-50.

almost, but not quite. 53-47. Still can be narrowed.

I’d have to agree with anxiousmom. That 6 percent can vary from year to year and nowadays women comprise of about 50 percent of applications. Either way i wouldn’t use sex as an gauging of chances, if one on CC can gauge chances at all…
You are right though, her stats make her very competitive. Good luck!

OP, you already know you have a good chance… are you looking for words of affirmation with this thread?

Obviously, that’s the only reason why people make chance threads…to feel better about themselves. Not that it’s a bad thing, it’s just human nature. I just wish there was a sticky saying that chance threads are useless. You can gauge yourself up to a point with the class of 2011 stats but the rest no one can say for sure.
