<p>I agree with Post #7 – the parents posting in Parent Cafe are interesting, around my age, have kids around my kids’ ages, and are intelligent. so why wouldn’t I go on several times a day to see what’s new? Lord knows my job isn’t particularly fascinating anymore . . . .</p>
<p>My brother (who is in the industry) that we should use my mother asa guage for what will be successful on the net. She used amazon, google and netflix long before the rest of us! While I agree many seniors aren’t on computers, some are and many are just now learning. My son spent most of last summer in the computer lab at the senior center teaching seniors everything from double clicking (who knew we once learned that?) to taking care of viruses.</p>

<p>I think most of us will be like that when we are her age. And I think we will greatly appreciate the extra independence the Internet gives us.</p>
<p>I’ve had a sneak preview of the limitations of senior citizenhood lately. As some of you know, I injured both my leg and my wrist about a month ago, and I am stuck at home, mostly using a wheelchair. I am unable to get in and out of the house without physical help (stupid steps) and unable to drive. This is not all that different from the life situation of many people who are the age of NYMomof2’s mother. Yet I am much more independent than one would think, thanks to the Internet. I can work (though I’m not up to full-time), I can do my own shopping (even for groceries and obscure medical supplies), I can communicate with people (most of whom have no idea that I have a problem), and I can even rent movies (although somebody else has to drop them in the mailbox when I’m done with them). It’s the Internet that makes all of this possible. Compared to the isolated and dependent lifestyle of my aunt, who died two years ago at the age of 90 after being essentially homebound for a decade, this is paradise. I wish it had been possible to teach my aunt to use a computer, but she was the sort who couldn’t even cope with a microwave oven.</p>
<p>We’re going to have a higher quality of life as senior citizens than our parents’ generation did, just because we know how to click on things on a screen.</p>
<p>I can’t believe I’m telling everyone this, but my D calls me a “CC whore” because I’m always on the site. She’s always kicking me off the computer so she can get her homework done, but I have learned so much about the college process here (since it has changed dramatically since I went to college). Everyone is so helpful and interesting. I definitely have been able to tell my D a lot of info that we may not have otherwise known if it were not for CC. Thanks everyone!</p>

<p>she just learned to text…took about 20 minutes to send me a text with 2 words. Now, shes constantly texting me with weird stuff like, “Sale at Nordstroms” or “How was your math test?”</p>

<p>I LOVE to torture my kids on instant messaging using all the just out of date jargon they were using last year. Drives them crazy. Makes me happy. :D</p>

I don’t think I’m any crazier or nerdier than H,who is an avid biker (road and mountain,not motor) who spends hours…way longer than me…looking at pics of bikes online and chatting in biking forums. I call the pics his “bike porn”.</p>
