My College-Age Child Struggled with Mental Health – What Helped

Just wanted to share something in case any other parent is going through something similar.

My child went through a tough time emotionally during their early college days. It started off as general stress but slowly became more serious — anxiety, loss of motivation, even trouble sleeping.

It took a bit of encouragement, but they eventually opened up. I gently suggested they speak to someone — no pressure, just support. Thankfully, they connected with someone who really understood what they were feeling.

With time, and the right kind of guidance, I saw a noticeable difference. They’re more settled now, re-engaged with studies, and back to doing things they enjoy. It’s still a journey, but the progress has been encouraging.

If anyone else is in this situation, just know — small steps and open conversations really help. And sometimes just pointing them in the right direction can make all the difference.
