What I want in a college:

I want to be in/near a city

Campus where students are generally satisfied

NOT a school with Greek scene

NOT a school where everyone is politically active

What does NOT matter for me:

class size

FA (if not offered, that’s not a problem for me)

climate

location

Feel free to add on, eliminate, or make changes to my list. I’ve done the research by myself and have not had it run through by anyone else and would LOVE suggestions. Any comments are welcomed. Please note that I have visited all the UCs I listed, but not any of the privates.

NU has some Greek scene. Emory has a lot too. NYU may be a better match (except that it’s politically active).

Consider smaller LACs if you don’t want Greek, and maybe even 7-sisters (Barnard?).

If you get deferred by Northwestern you wouldn’t do ED II, though, would you? Your scores are fairly high and you might want to let things play out.

For Journalism you might want to look at U of Missouri at Columbia. Excellent journalism school and located in a nice town. They have a magazine journalism emphasis.

limabeans: I’m okay with some Greek scene, just not a place where Greek scene is the center of student activities… But if Emory has a lot, I might want to reconsider there. Thank you for your suggestion - I’ll definitely look into Barnard/7-sisters!

Hitch123: If I was deferred, I think I’ll do ED 2 - because honestly, I don’t think I have any shot at Northwestern RD. I’m only hoping for a miracle applying to Medill ED.

dsultemeier: I’ll look into U of Missouri as well, thank you! Magazine journalism would be perfect.

Also: if it seems like college(s) are just WAY out of my league - as in 0% possibility, please let me know. I’m willing to take risks, but I’d at least like to know beforehand if I’m just praying for miracle.

Not being top 10%, with no hook and being in a very competitive pool will make NU and WashU very, very tough. The top UCs, with a 3.55 are all but impossible. Even the mid tier UCs must be considered reaches, even with high scores for these schools.

I can see NYU and BU, but you do need to be prepared to pay in full.

BC and USC are also reaches. Good chance at Michigan.

I assume you’ve retaken the D for the UCs.

I thought my hook was that all my ECs and everything showed that I was committed to journalism, but maybe that’s not even showing…? NU and WashU, BC, USC are my reaches that I don’t expect much from, but would love to be in. I did make up the D, and it is made up with an A.
