It’s not geared toward students at all. I use it to keep track of my work-study paychecks and such things. It feels great for Columbia to be paying me for a change!

If it’s not geared toward students, why bother having it at all (waste of resource)… ?

My ugrad school has much better portal,… students can check unofficial grades, check email, school events, register for schools events, discussion forums in various aspects of school life, buy/sell stuff (such as game tickets)… etc.

So if it’s very useful for faculty and staff, but not students, Columbia shouldn’t have it? Nice to see you appreciate the faculty and staff!

I’d say the “portal” for most students is SSOL, not my.columbia.edu. Some students will use Cubmail, but most with any sense will just forward it to Gmail. Courseworks is used for classes and discussions.

Yes. There are a lot of schools with online portals that allow students to interact with each other… things like an online forum to discuss stuff going on on campus or to buy or sell stuff from or to fellow students (things like used text book or sports game tickets), or things like campus event signing up, ticket distribution, event notification… tons of things.

my.columbia.edu portal does none of that.

(btw, bwog is a great source for anything on campus, and you can tell it’s NOT run by school administration or CUIT.)
