my desktop died, looking for new netbook

I have been using my old desktop for at least three years and now it does not work. I want to get a light and small netbook. My problem is that I’m quite out of touch with what is currently out there, thus the reason for posting here looking for suggestions.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

That’s a huge step down in performance.

Just saying.

^^^Could not agree more. I bought a Samsung netbook two years ago primarily because I was travelling while teaching an online class and I needed something lightweight. I would never make that choice again. There are too many performance trade-off’s. It seems to me that there are thin, lightweight laptops that can give you a lot more in the way of performance.

No, you don’t want a small and light netbook. You want a small and light ultraportable laptop. 11.6"/13" is the perfect size… Not too small, not too big. There are some good ~$400 slim laptops out there that crush all netbooks in performance and usability, and they’re just as portable.

Just don’t get a Mac and overpay for the apple on the back

^I don’t feel like I overpayed for my Mac. I could never go back to using Windows. My friends with it just have too many issues with the software.

Yeah… $500 tax on technical ignorance seems about right.

I’ve never had issues with software on a PC.

This is a great deal if you want something small, light, cheap and reasonably powerful.

I’d get one for either of my kids in a heartbeat if they needed a replacement system.

you cant replace a desktop with a netbook…

I’d suggest looking into what “died”. Likely a cheaper fix than a netbook.

Actually, I’d imagine that the type of person who’d consider asking this question will be able to replace desktop with netbook as their desktop is probably way underutilized anyways.

That said, I personally think the ideal combo is a desktop and a netbook.

My golden advice is: look for something in the $300-$350 range, with at least 10hr claimed battery life.
